The All-Star break is officially in the rearview mirror now as we can look towards the playoffs on the horizon. The WNBA is heating up at just the right time with teams getting healthy and starting to jockey for standings. I'll be coming at you once a week with the best WNBA picks for the Saturday WNBA slate. I took some swings on the WNBA All-Star Game props last time out, and missed on both plays, but that's OK; we bounce back. Here are my best bets for Saturday, August 1st

Saturday’s Best WNBA Picks and Predictions

Las Vegas Aces vs. Chicago Sky
We start in the Windy City, and while Lollapalooza may be going on, this game should still be a show. Both teams are coming off solid wins, with the Aces finally defeating the New York Liberty on Thursday. Having to travel after a mentally and physically straining victory does give me pause on backing the favorite here, especially with their injury concerns.
Also, Chicago is hitting a bit of stride, going 3-2 in their last five games with the fifth-best NET Rating in the league. Obviously that’s a small sample, but we've seen this line oscillate a lot and Chicago put up a fight in Las Vegas when these two teams matched up last time. I'm also not one to play the vibes game much, but if there's any game that screams "trap spot" for the Aces, it's this one. I'm backing the underdogs here to keep it close.

New York Liberty vs. Phoenix Mercury
The aforementioned New York Liberty continue their road trip out West as the Phoenix Mercury host. The Liberty sit around 2.5-point favorites with the total at 177.5 points. This is another game where the home team has the vibes going for it after a battle of a game two days ago for the Liberty; Phoenix gets the home court and rest advantage.
Both teams are getting closer to healthy, and New York seems to be finding its groove a bit, winning three straight before losing on the road to the Aces. The biggest factor in this one will be from the perimeter. The Mercury allow the third-most three-point attempts in the entire league, while the Liberty shoot at the second-highest clip from deep. This is an offense that doesn't take a step back when on the road, and I can trust it right now. I'm backing New York here, despite "vibes" telling me otherwise.
