Top 5 WNBA Player Prop Bet Odds & Picks: Thursday (5/23)

There are three games across the association tonight, including what should be an all-out war in Connecticut between two undefeated teams as the Sun will take on the Minnesota Lynx.

The other two contests on tap are also full of stars; Angel Reese & the Chicago Sky will take on the Liberty in what is being labeled as a possible one-sided affair in favor of New York.

The last matchup is a showdown in which the Washington Mystics will once again look to attain their first win against the high-powered offense of the Phoenix Mercury.

Without any further preamble, let's jump right into the these three WNBA contests as we breakdown some rebound and assists picks for 5/23.

Alyssa Thomas Higher 7.5 Assists (-115)

The Minnesota Lynx are last in the league in defensive rating with an 84. It just so happens that they are also first in pace, which opens the door for ample opportunity to find teammates for open looks from beyond the perimeter or cutting to the basket.

Thomas is only 0.7 assists shy from averaging 10.0 assists per game on the season. She failed to exceed 7.5 assists in only one contest, where foul trouble and turnovers played a pivotal role in this result.

This number comes across as a bit low given the season average and opponent. It's due to this that we like the Connecticut forward to surpass the desired threshold in what has all the makings of a dynamic matchup.

Napheesa Collier Lower 9.5 Rebounds (-120)

Collier has opened the 2024 campaign in booming fashion, averaging 24.5 points, 10.5 rebounds, with 3.5 steals, and 2.0 blocks. The hot start has been a driving force in the early success of the Lynx.

However, the Minnesota forward will have her hands full on the glass tonight. They’re facing a team that boasts three players in their starting lineup averaging five rebounds or more, and Breanna Jones is right behind at 4.8.

These teams also both too five in FG%, so rebounds could very well be at a minimum in this contest.

By no means do we expect this to go severely under; it just doesn't seem like the best spot for a possible double-double against a team that has so many rebounding options.

Sabrina Ionescu Higher 5.5 Assists (-130)

New York has started out this season on an absolute tear, winning their first four games and looking to get a fifth tonight in Brooklyn.

Ionescu and the Liberty are heavy favorites this evening. Even though we could see a slight dip in playing time for the fourth-year guard, they will need to score points in order to gain that type of lead.

Granted, the New York guard has put more emphasis on scoring baskets recently, but the assists are still there, leading the team with 6.0 on the season.

This could be a pick that has you on the edge of your seat, although we feel the result will be higher than 5.5

Breanna Stewart Lower 9.5 Rebounds (-115)

In the same contest, we look to the forward position, where the reigning MVP looks to be in a fantastic spot for points. However, there will likely not be a high total of rebounds.

Stewart has eclipsed this total of rebounds in two of the four games played, and to her credit, she only needed 29 minutes on the court to do so against Indiana.

However, in regards to grabbing boards, the Fever are nowhere near as impactful as the Sky are on the glass, although not many in the league are.

Chicago ranks second in rebounds, with 39.5 per game and 17.5 on the offensive end. That is a far cry from second in offensive rebounds at only 13.2.

Considering the strength of the opponent, the possibility of a blowout, and the fact that Jonquel Jones will surely grab her fair share of boards (she’s averaging 9.5 on the season), this looks to be a number where it may simply be safer to take the under.

Julie Vanloo Higher 6.5 Assists (-115)

Vanloo has opened the season averaging 6.5 assists, however that number is a bit misleading. In her first ever regular season contest in the WNBA, the veteran guard from Belgium only needed 13 minutes to dish out four assists.

Since that game, her averages have jumped to 7.3 assists in 28.6 minutes of playing time, including a season high in both categories with nine assists and 30 minutes in the last game.

With Brittany Sykes still out with a left ankle injury, the Mystics will have to depend on their lead ball-handler to create open looks if they want to finally seal their first win. The Mercury prefer to run at a faster pace, so we are certainly hoping for a shootout.
