(Odds courtesy of FanDuel Sportsbook)
Caitlin Clark Under 18.5 Points (-125)
On Wednesday, Caitlin Clark played for the first time in over two weeks, but the performance was one to forget. She finished with just 10 points on 4-of-12 shooting from the field, dished out only six assists and grabbed five rebounds, as her Fever lost by 19. Clark is averaging 17.4 points per game, but Wednesday's performance has me concerned entering a matchup with the third-best defense in the WNBA.
Clark has already faced the Dream twice this season. In the first meeting, she dropped 27 points, her second-highest scoring total of the season. However, in the second meeting, she scored just 11 points on 4-of-11 shooting. Even before her injury, Clark was struggling a bit, and she has scored 19 or fewer points in four consecutive games. She's only scored more than 18.5 points in five of her 10 games. Coming off her injury in a tough matchup, the under is the right play tonight.
Brionna Jones 8+ Rebounds (+130)
This line makes so little sense that I'm a little concerned I'm walking into a trap. This season, Brionna Jones is averaging 8.1 rebounds per game. She's pulled down at least eight boards in three of her last four contests. More importantly, she's faced the Fever three times this season, and she's grabbed at least 10 boards in all three contests.
For some reason, Jones' standard line is set at just 6.5 for tonight. While that seems like a lock, the price for the over is rightfully north of -140. Jones has struggled a bit at various times throughout the season, but she's still grabbed at least eight rebounds in 11 of her 19 games. To get this total at this price, considering how well she has played against the Fever, provides incredible value. Don't overthink this one.
Skylar Diggins Over 17.5 Points (-104)
On Wednesday, Sylar Diggins dropped 23 points in 33 minutes, despite shooting just 1-of-5 from three-point range. The performance was well above her season average of 18.5 points, and right in line with the 23-point performance she put together against the Sun on June 27th. In that June meeting, Diggins was 8-of-14 from the field, her third-best shooting performance of the season.
While I could certainly see Diggins reverting to her average tonight, I don't understand why this total is set below her current season average. She has scored 18 or fewer points in three of her last four games, but two of those performances came against top-three defenses. The other was against the New York Liberty, who currently hold the third-best record in the league. The Storm should come out fired up after losing to the lowly Sun, and nothing suggests Diggins will struggle tonight.
