Olivia Miles Under 15.5 Points (-130)
Olivia Miles has gotten off to a hot start after being the second overall pick in the WNBA draft. She's well on her way to a strong Rookie of the Year campaign, and she's stuffing the stat sheet with points, rebounds and assists on a nightly basis. However, the markets are still trying to determine how to price her.
In the first game against Atlanta, she scored 21 points out of the gate, shooting up her points line from 11.5 to 15.5 points. Since that first game, she's been unable to hit the over on her hits total, although she's averaged 13.8 points per game (PPG) in the last four with at least 13 in each contest. The markets are correcting a bit today, but it's the matchup that has me projecting her to go under yet again.
The revamped Chicago Sky have been a really solid defensive team. They've been one of the best defensive teams in terms of effective field-goal rate (eFG%), holding opponents to a 45.9% eFG% mark.
This includes an impressive 44.9% two-point defense, where Miles has looked to get most of her scoring. She's attempted 82.1% of her shots from inside the arc, and like the rest of the Lynx team, she doesn't get to the free-throw line much.
This is going to be another tough matchup for Miles, who needed 10 shots and four free-throw attempts to get 13 points in the last matchup between these two last Sunday. We'll be taking the under again.
Brittney Sykes Over 1.5 Made Three-Pointers (-112)
This is the first matchup between the WNBA's newest franchises. Early in the season, we're seeing some interesting trends. For Toronto, no team in the league is taking as many three-point attempts as they are. Over 46% of their shot attempts come from deep. This equates to 31.3 three-pointers per game, which is second in the league behind Golden State.
Brittney Sykes plays a big part in this. In her last four contests, she's averaging 7.8 three-point attempts per game, where she's been shooting 37%. Sykes has started off this season as a volume three-point shooter and has been connecting at an elite rate. Just that alone would make you lean toward the over on 1.5 made three-pointers. When you look at the matchup, the value is even greater.
No team in the league is allowing a higher three-point rate than Portland. They're also allowing the highest rate of attempts from three-point range in the league. This means they are allowing a lot of threes, and those shots are high-percentage looks. For a volume shooter that's hot right now, that is music to her ears and a welcome sight to any bettor looking to bet the over on Sykes.
