WNBA Playoffs Picks & Predictions: Sunday (9/27)

Indiana Fever (+130) at Las Vegas Aces (-3.5) | O/U 183.5 (-105/-115)
The Indiana Fever finished the regular season 28-16, tied for 2nd place in the East with the Washington Mystics. The Fever enter the postseason winners of four of their last six and nine of their last 13. They have also won two of their last three away from Gainbridge Fieldhouse.
The Las Vegas Aces finished their regular season 31-13, good for third place in the stacked Western Conference. They enter the playoffs on a seven-game winning streak and have won nine of their last 11. They have also won four straight at home and 8-2 in Vegas in their last 10.
Indiana took the season series, 2-1, and was a two-point OT loss the last time these two teams faced away from being 3-0. Indiana won on July 5, 84-68, and then again a week later, 109-75, both in Vegas. The aforementioned 86-84 Vegas OT win in Indy the last time they faced was on August 6.
Vegas is arguably the hottest team in the W right now, but the season history and value are the play here today.
Pick: Fever Moneyline (+130)
Washington Mystics (+220) at Atlanta Dream (-6.5) | O/U 164.5 (-112/-108)
The Washington Mystics finished the regular season 28-16 in a tie with Indiana for 2nd place in the Eastern Conference. The ‘Stics come in winners of seven of their last eight and nine of their last 10 games. They throttled the Fever 93-77 in one of their final four games of the regular season following the FIBA World Cup break. They have also won five of their last six games away from CareFirst Arena dating back to August 23.
The Atlanta Dream finished 30-14 and paced the Eastern Conference. The Dream have won five in a row and nine of their last 10. They have also won three straight and eight of 11 at Gateway Center as well as 17 of their last 21 overall.
The Mystics took the season series 2-1, with the home team taking each contest. While both of Washington’s wins were at home, they are also the two most recent contests this season, with both coming since July 2 and the most recent matchup as recent as August 7. Before you ask, both sides had their full arsenal of key players available, just like today. Unlike August 7, today Angel Reese is coming off a game in which she exited early after taking a hard elbow to the face from Sabrina Ionescu of all people. Reese is said to be in “good spirits” and “excited for the playoffs” according to Dream HC Karl Smesko. Still, any kind of head injury heading into the postseason is less than ideal.
The Dream did win their home game against the Mystics handily, 109-77, here in College Park, GA, but that was back on June 6. The loss dropped Washington to 4-5, a point from which they would go 24-11 over the rest of the season. Coincidentally, that June 6 win moved Atlanta to 7-3, a point from which they would go 21-11 over the rest of the season. Mirror, Mirror, indeed.
Both teams enter the playoffs hotter than the blazes of hell and tarnation, but Washington sits right around that +200 moneyline “sweet spot” that seems to hit so often in the W.
