WNBA Same Game Parlay Odds & Picks: Saturday (6/22)

The WNBA schedule has three regular season games on tap for Saturday, including a pair of 3 p.m. tip-offs, and one evening game set for 8 p.m. The Dallas Wings and Washington Mystics square off in the early window, and the game can be streamed on ESPN3. The Los Angeles Sparks and New York Liberty play the second end of a back-to-back at Barclays Center, with the game available on ESPN. In the evening matchup, the Phoenix Mercury and the Minnesota Lynx battle on NBA TV in the Twin Cities.

Dallas Wings at Washington Mystics

The Wings (3-11) and the Mystics (2-13) battle in the nation’s capital on Saturday afternoon in the front end of a back-to-back this weekend. After opening the season 3-2, the Wings are in freefall with nine consecutive losses. In addition, Dallas has covered just once in the past eight games, while the Over has a slight 7-4 edge in the past 11 outings.

After a 12-game losing streak to open the season, Washington had picked up consecutive wins against the Atlanta Dream and Chicago Sky from June 11-14, before suffering an 88-81 loss on the road against the Indiana Fever. The non-cover against the Fever also snapped a 4-0 against the spread (ATS) run for Washington.

The Over has hit in four of the past five games for the Mystics, and that’s going to be one end of our Same Game Parlay for this afternoon’s contest. Additionally, backing Washington on their home floor on the moneyline is also a good bet.

Regarding the player props, look to Mystics guard Ariel Atkins to get busy from behind the arc. She has notched two or more 3-pointers in five straight outings, and that’s what we’ll roll with her. Take Atkins to notch at least two triples, going along with the moneyline play and total. We’ll back Stefanie Dolson to pull down at least four boards, too. He has five or more rebounds in each of her past three outings, picking up the pace tremendously over her season average of 4.0 APG.

Los Angeles Sparks at New York Liberty

The Sparks (4-12) and Liberty (13-3) meet for the second time in three days at Barclays Center in Brooklyn. On Thursday, the Sparks rallied slightly in the fourth quarter, falling 93-80. However, Los Angeles outscored New York 24-20 in the final quarter, earning the backdoor cover as 14.5-point underdogs. The Liberty were without two key starters, though, as Betnijah Laney-Hamilton sat with a right knee injury, while Courtney Vandersloot was sidelined due to personal reasons.

This season, Los Angeles is 5-1 ATS in six tries as a double-digit underdog, including Thursday’s game at New York. On the flip side, the Liberty is just 1-3 ATS in the past four games, and it is just 1-8 ATS when favored by 10 or more points this season. Based on the trends for both teams, we’ll take the Sparks catching the 15.

The Sparks shot a robust 50% (31-of-62) from the field in Thursday’s loss and cover, while connecting at 37% (7-of-19) from behind the 3-point line. The Sparks didn’t help themselves by misfiring on eight of their 19 free throw attempts, hitting just 58% from the stripe. L.A. also turned it over 14 times, which simply won’t do against a team of the Liberty’s caliber.

New York hit 49% (34-of-69) from the field and 39% (13-of-33) from behind the arc. It turned it over three fewer times than Los Angeles while going 80% (12-of-15) from the free-throw line. The Liberty won going away despite the fact they turned it over four more times than the Sparks.

It’s surprising to see Jones at plus-money for two 3-pointer makes, but that’s the play here. He has two or more triples in six straight games, so strike while the iron is hot. In the other prop play, Breanna Stewart was good for 17 points, five rebounds, five assists, and three blocked shots on 6-of-13 shooting in 35 minutes on Thursday night. She should be able to get to 20 or more points against a Sparks defense which did hold her down in Game No. 1 of this set, but it’s also a scoring defense that has allowed 84.3 PPG while ranking 10th in both defensive field-goal percentage (44.8%) and defensive 3-pointer percentage (35.9%).
