Atlanta Dream (-170) at Minnesota Lynx (+142) | O/U 157.5 (-110/-110)
- Leg 1: Dream -3.5 (-118)
- Leg 2: Under 157.5 Points (-110)
- Leg 3: Angel Reese 12+ Rebounds (-146)
There will be plenty of eyes on this game, as Angel Reese makes her debut for the Dream after an offseason trade from the Chicago Sky. The Lynx certainly had their hands full with the Reese-less Dream last season, losing the final two meetings, including the only clash in the Twin Cities on July 27. In addition, Minnesota’s only victory in the three-game regular-season series came in a 96-92 win in overtime. The Over cashed in two of the three meetings, too.
As far as the injury report is concerned, the Dream will be without Brionna Jones (knee), while the Lynx will be missing its biggest star, Napheesa Collier, due to a left ankle injury. Reserve Dorka Juhasz (foot) will also be out with a right foot ailment.
Based on the additions of Reese to the Dream, and the fact Phee is sidelined for the Lynx, let’s back Atlanta to get the job done in the Twin Cities. If you’re a little more conservative, just play the moneyline, but if you’re more of a traditional bettor, lay the two buckets. In addition, we’re going to suggest going low on the total. Atlanta’s defense should be much better, while Minnesota might have a little bit of a disjointed offense with Collier in street clothes.
As far as player props, let’s take it easy in the first week, and go with a tried-and-true option. Reese is a good bet to get to at least 12 rebounds. She is a rebounding machine, and some might even argue she helps herself in the category with plenty of offensive boards due to a lower field-goal percentage. She is much better than many give her credit for, however, especially in the rebounding department. To get us across the +400 threshold, let’s go with the Cajun Barbie to get to at least 12 boards.
Parlay Odds: +410
Chicago Sky (-225) at Portland Fire (+185) | O/U 160.5 (-112/-108)
- Leg 1: Fire +5.5 (-115)
- Leg 2: Under 160.5 Points (-108)
- Leg 3: Rickea Jackson To Score 15+ Points (-182)
Reese’s former team, the Sky, take on the second expansion team, the Fire, in Portland on Saturday.
The newest expansion team, the Toronto Tempo, suffered a loss on their home court to the Washington Mystics, as the growing pains for a first-year team are real. There is a reason teams left certain players exposed to the expansion draft. The Tempo is believed to be a little more competitive than the Fire is expected to be, too.
Chicago does have some key parts sidelined, however. DiJonai Carrington (foot) is out with a left foot injury, while Natasha Cloud (illness) is also out. Azura Stevens (out) will not play due to a left knee injury, and Courtney Vandersloot (knee) is on the shelf due to a right knee injury. Also, Maddy Westbeld (conditioning) is questionable to go. The Fire will be without Karlie Samuelson (foot), while Sug Sutton (knee) is questionable.
Due to the slew of injuries for Chicago, we’re actually going to side with Portland catching the points, although we won’t take the Fire straight up, and you shouldn’t, either. In addition, let’s go Under on the total due to so many players missing in action, especially for the visitors.
For player props, Rickea Jackson makes her Sky debut. She averaged 14.7 points (PPG), 3.2 rebounds (RPG), and 1.7 assists (APG) per game in 37 starts and 38 total games for the Los Angeles Sparks last season. She is going to be a huge part of the offense for Chicago, and she’ll be leaned upon heavily in Game No. 1. Let’s take Jackson to get to least 15 points in her team debut.
