Los Angeles Sparks (+198) at Indiana Fever (-250) | O/U 167 (-110/-110)

The Sparks (4-11) and the Fever (7-7) tangle in Indianapolis, the first of four meetings this season. The teams will also meet in Indianapolis on July 5th, as L.A. has another trip east of the Mississippi River coming up in early July.

I expected a much better effort out of the Sparks last time out on Tuesday, but Angel Reese and the Sky bounced the Sparks 97-86, as L.A. never came close to covering as a 5-point road favorite as the over (167) cashed. The Sparks have dropped a season-high four in a row, and they’ve also failed to cover in a season-high four straight games. The Sparks are just 2-8 against the spread (ATS) in the past 10 games after going 3-2 ATS to open the season.

One constant for Los Angeles has been the total, particularly hitting the over. The over is on a 5-1 run in the past six games, while going 3-1 in the past four on the road. The total has gone high at an 8-2-1 clip in the past 11 outings.

While the Fever has had a little bit of drama lately, with 37-year-old veteran DeWanna Bonner released by the team. There were sky-high expectations heading into the season, as the veteran had the chance to work with superstar Caitlin Clark on a team expected to win. However, Bonner didn’t feel like she fit in and hadn’t played since June 10th. She was hopeful of being traded. With her contract, there were no suitable options, and Indiana ended up just parting ways with her this week. Aari McDonald, who fit in well in a bench role earlier this season, is back with Indiana.

Despite the Bonner drama coming to a head this week, Indiana might have played one of its most complete games of the season last time out. It pounded Seattle 94-86 on the road as a 4-point underdog, although the score isn’t indicative of how lopsided the game was, as Indiana led by as many as 19 points before Seattle made it respectable late.

Aliyah Boston racked up a career-high 31 points, while Kelsey Mitchell went for 26 points, including five three-pointers. Lexie Hull also had 15 points and 11 rebounds with two steals, as the trio was able to overcome a rather stunning and rare poor showing from Clark, who had just six points on 3-of-13 shooting, including 0-of-6 from downtown.

More on Clark, as she had eight turnovers in a disastrous game for her. To make matters worse, she was dealing with a groin injury and will miss Thursday’s game, according to The Indianapolis Star.

Based on Boston and Mitchell’s ability to step up as secondary scoring options to Clark, they should be fine as primary options to run the offense through. Hull was also a solid tertiary option, cleaning the glass with aplomb, too. The team will miss Clark’s ability to spread the floor and dish out assists, and that role is likely to fall upon Sophie Cunningham. She and Hull should see a bump in assist numbers.

Even though Clark is missing, take advantage and back the Fever on the Moneyline. Getting the job done without its star, especially by more than three buckets, would be a risk. But the Moneyline is worth a look, as we can get some value with the total and props. We’ll go high on the total despite no Clark, as she didn’t really do much on Tuesday, and the game still went over. Plus, the Sparks are atrocious on defense. Look for Boston and Mitchell to have their way with a soft underbelly of the Sparks’ defense in the middle.

For player props, we’ll look to Kelsey Plum of the Sparks to get to at least 15 points. She should have a little more breathing room with Clark not on the court to hound her on defense.

We’ll also look at Boston on the player combo prop, going over 28.5 combined points + rebounds + assists. That’s a good bet, since the offense should run through her. To get us over the +400 threshold, we’ll toss in Azura Stevens to get to at least six boards. She is averaging 8.7 rebounds per game on the season. She has six or more boards in 14 consecutive games since a season-low five in the opener at Golden State back on May 16th.
