Portland Fire vs. Connecticut Sun
Leg 1: Portland Fire at Connecticut Sun Under 173.5 Alternate Total Points (-188)
We kick things off with a very straightforward selection. An early start is usually a good environment in which we can string together a few bets that favor the under. With the 11 am start time, this becomes even more so. The Portland Fire and Connecticut Sun aren't the most efficient teams in the WNBA to begin with, and things get worse for Portland when playing on the road. Which is why we feel this game will easily go under 173.5 points.
The Connecticut Sun are just shy of 80 points per contest this season, while the Portland Fire put up 84.9 points per game. The Sun have scored an average of 78.0 points in the last three games, and the Fire shoot 43% as a team when playing on the road. Connecticut has failed to hit the over on total points in two out of the last three games.
Leg 2: Megan Gustafson Under 1.5 Three-Pointers (-178)
Megan Gustafson makes 1.5 three-pointers per game when playing on the road this season. Gustafson has failed to finish with at least two baskets from deep in two out of the last three contests. The Connecticut Sun have allowed the third-fewest three-pointers attempted in the last five games (22.8).
Gustafson has matched up against the Sun on two occasions this season and has only accounted for one three-pointer. While we don't expect Gustafson to go completely cold from beyond the arc, two three-pointers in this contest seems ambitious. The forward for the Fire is averaging 1.3 three-pointers in July.
Leg 3: H2H Total Points: Brittney Griner & Carla Leite- Under 28 Total Points (-125)
We waxed poetic about the expectation of a sluggish contest due to the early start, and the suggested points total of 28 certainly may provide a small edge. Brittney Griner could be making a return to the court after missing the previous two games with a quadriceps injury. Griner is questionable at the time of this writing. So make sure to check back on the Betting Pros app before the tip off for all of your up-to-date information.
We are absolutely going to attack this prop due to the possibility that Griner does return and fails to see a full allotment of minutes. As for Carla Leite, the heat seems to have worn off the guard for the Fire after a phenomenal three-game stretch. Leite put up 70 points in three games and has followed that up with 26 points on 30.9% shooting from the field and 16.6% from beyond the arc.
28 points comes across as a bit generous given the tough shooting spell Carla Leite is currently experiencing. When you combine Griner's possible unpredictability in playing time, it makes complete sense to take the under on the two players accumulating 28 points or more.
Leg 4; Emily Engstler 10+ Points + Rebounds (-730)
We close out the parlay with an alternative play that adds a little more value without too much risk. Emily Engstler scores nine points each contest, while grabbing 5.5 rebounds. Engstler is putting up 12 points and nine boards through the previous two games. The forward for Portland scores 9.4 points and rips down 5.4 rebounds in 11 road games this season.
Engstler reached at least 10 points + rebounds in 9-of-11 road games. The forward for the Fire has finished with eight rebounds or more in three consecutive road games. If you wanted to extend this parlay and add an alternate rebounding line, we wouldn't fault you. Engstler has been a powerhouse on the boards as of late, which is the catalyst for this last leg of our parlay.
