Women’s College Basketball Odds, Picks & Predictions: Tuesday (3/3)

Most of the women's college basketball conferences wrapped up their regular seasons last week, but a few are still finishing things up. Those games are the ones I'll target for today's best women’s college basketball picks & predictions.

We're not going to find many big-brand teams in action, and that's OK because there’s a better chance we can find markets with value, since these games don't generate much national attention.

Nevada Wolf Pack at Utah State Aggies

Wins mean a lot to every team, but winning this game may mean a little bit more to Utah State (6-22, 2-17 in the Mountain West) than Nevada (9-20, 5-14 in the Mountain West). At one point in the season, the Aggies were a .500 team (6-6) and still had hope for the rest of the season. That was before they lost 17 in a row.

A win in their regular season and home finale will give them a chance to get that monkey off their back and not carry the baggage of such a long losing streak into next season.

Nevada was loss No. 1 in their lengthy losing streak, and it wasn't even close. The Wolf Pack led 28-17 at the half and went on to win 58-40. Utah State averaged more points per game than Nevada (58.6 to 56.6). But the Wolf Pack is much better on the defensive end (61.1 points per game allowed, No. 101 in the country) compared to Utah State (68.1 points per game allowed, No. 275).

I'm a little concerned that Utah State's defense may allow Nevada to crack 70 points, putting the under in danger. But we have two bad teams playing. That doesn't mean one will become relatively good.

Pick: Under 121 Points (-125)

Fresno State Bulldogs vs. New Mexico Lobos

New Mexico (21-9, 13-6 in the Mountain West) comes into this game winners of their last four and five of their last six. They last played on  Saturday and beat Nevada 63-56. As for Fresno State, the Bulldogs are hoping they can end a three-game losing streak. Defensively, they are pretty similar. New Mexico allows 60.6 points per game (No. 91 in the country), and Fresno State allows 59.4 points per game (No. 62).

On the offensive end, there is more of a difference. The Lobos average 67 points per game (No. 159) while Fresno State averages 62.4 points per game (No. 258).

We are not dealing with two bad teams in this case, which makes the game a little more interesting. Instead, we have two squads that play decent basketball on both ends of the court. However, I have to lean towards backing the defenses in this game over the offenses. With a total this low, it is going to be close. But I am much more confident in this being a low-scoring game than I am in either team to cover.

Pick: Under 123.4 Points (-115)
