Wednesday’s Best Women’s College Basketball Picks & Predictions

(Odds courtesy of DraftKings Sportsbook)

UCF vs. Kansas

It has not been a fun season for the UCF Knights (11-18, 3-15 Big 12). When you struggle to score points (63.9 points per game, No. 218 in the nation) and allow teams an average higher than what you score (67.6 points per game allowed, No. 264), you are not going to win much (and they haven't).

Kansas had a better regular season than the Knights, but without a deep run in the conference tournament, the NIT might be the best they can hope for.

When these two teams played early in the season, the first half was competitive, and saw UCF take a one-point lead into the break. However, the Jayhawks took over in the second half, outscoring the Knights 51-35 for an 83-68 win.

UCF won its last game vs. the Cougars, 72-62, in Houston, but it had lost its previous ten, all by double digits. The Knights know their season is over and today, it becomes official.

Pick:  Kansas -12.5 (-102)

Oregon vs. Purdue

I am a little surprised that the regular season game between these, a little over a week ago, was as competitive as it was (71-65, Oregon). The Ducks were favored by 8.5 at home and only won one quarter. They were tied at 17-17 after the first, and Purdue won the second half (13-12 and 24-20).

Still, the 11-point cushion the Duck got in the second quarter (22-11) carried them to an eventual win. So, then how come the spread in a rematch a week later is more? It started out at -11.5 but has since shifted to -10.5. Purdue won its regular-season finale, 67-62 vs. Northwestern, but lost six of its previous seven. Oregon lost its regular-season finale (70-69 vs. Washington) but also lost three of its last five.

I think the Ducks are the better team, but I find it hard to move past Purdue winning three of four quarters just over a week ago. I would pick Oregon to win, but I would not be shocked to see Purdue pull off an upset or, at the least, stay within ten.

Pick: Purdue +10.5 (-110)

Missouri vs. Alabama

Before conference play started, Missouri looked like a team with potential at 12-3. Then SEC play began, and they dropped their first four, including a 74-63 loss to Alabama. They went on to finish just 4-12 in SEC play this season. Alabama, on the other hand, got conference play off to a better start and was 19-3 overall and 5-3 in the SEC heading into February, when things went south.

They lost six of eight games in February, five of them to ranked teams, ending the regular season with a 72-65 loss to Texas.

With both teams playing poorly to end the regular season, I can't get behind either to win, SU or ATS. Still, neither has been scoring a ton of points, and I do not think that will change in this game.

Pick: Under 143.5  Total Points (-105)
