Overview
In a conference loaded with top-25 teams, there will not be much room for error if an unranked team hopes to make the NCAA Tournament. Both teams are starting a six-game stretch on their respective schedules, where they will face five ranked teams.
So, if they hope to get selected for this year's March Madness tournament, they must win the winnable games (like this one).
Both teams enter tonight's game on different trajectories. Yes, Indiana takes a three-game road win streak into the contest. But they will also take a two-game losing streak into it after dropping their last two home games. They fell to Illinois last Thursday by a score of 68-54 and lost on Sunday to USC, 73-66.
Indiana got off to a good start against USC and held a 19-14 lead after one. But then USC took over in the second quarter, outscoring the Hoosiers by 11 and taking a 37-32 lead into the half. But after a competitive third quarter, the Trojans were only up by one.
JuJu Watkins took over down the stretch to secure the win for USC.
Oregon is coming in hot, fresh off a one-point win over Iowa, 50-49, and a 69-53 victory over Purdue. They trailed Iowa by as much as 15 points in the first half and were down by 10 at the break. But the defense held Iowa to 17 points in the second half while the offense poured in 28.
Trends
- Indiana has won its last three road games but also lost its last three home games.
- Oregon is 3-1 in conference games played at home.
- Indiana and Oregon have played twice (2019 and 1984); both games were won by Oregon (91-68 and 77-56).
- Oregon's only home loss this season (12-1) came against No. 6-ranked USC, 66-53 (December 7th, 2024)
Bottom Line
These two teams appear to be almost evenly matched. Both average around 70 points per game and allow 60-ish points per game. However, one of the more significant differences between them could be what makes or breaks the game for the eventual winner. Indiana tends to lean on three-pointers somewhat (No. 117 in three-point attempts per game), while Oregon does not (No. 266 in three-point attempts).
If Indiana can heat up from behind the arc, they can take this game. But the Ducks are not bad at defending against the threes (No. 96 in three-point percentage defense: 28.8%). However, if Indiana does not, Oregon should take this game.
Both teams have good offenses. But I don't feel confident enough in either's defense to pick a winner, so we will go with the over.
Pick: Over 128.5 Points (-110)
