After an emotional victory over Venezuela, Team USA is one win away from returning to the WBC final, where they look to defend their 2017 title.
USA needed some late-inning heroics from Trea Turner to advance to the semifinals. Down 7-5 in the 8th inning, the Phillies’ shortstop smashed an 0-2 pitch over the left-field wall for a go-ahead grand slam. USA won 9-7.
Their opponent, Cuba, is also looking to reach the WBC final for the first time since 2006. Cuba secured their spot earlier this week with a 4-3 victory over Australia.

Adam Wainwright is on the hill tonight for Team USA, while Cuba is starting Roesnis Elias.
Wainwright went 4.0 Innings, giving up one run on five with four strikeouts in USA’s opening game against Great Britain. USA went on to win the game 6-2
His Opponent Roesnis Elias has made two appearances in this year’s WBC. Elias’ only start came against Italy, where he threw five shutout innings while only giving up two hits with three strikeouts. His other appearance came in relief against Australia, in which he gave 2 two runs on two hits in two innings.
I like the over in this semifinal matchup. I think both starters can give their teams quality starts, but both lineups have been hot, scoring 24 runs over their past three games. The USA is coming off a big emotional victory and has a ton of momentum coming into this matchup with Cuba.
Both lineups ranked in the top third in hits, average, OBP, and OPS. While the total is set at 10, I think the team to score 10 runs first may win this game.
