Wyndham Championship: Best Longshot Odds & Picks (2022)

With the Rocket Mortgage Classic in the rearview mirror, we look forward to this week’s Wyndham Championship in Greensboro, North Carolina. As it has done every year since 2008, Sedgefield Country Club will host this event.

Sedgefield Country Club is a par 70, 7,131-yard track designed by Donald Ross. In typical Ross fashion, the small, undulating greens reward those who are accurate in their approach game.

Alongside SG Approach the Green, previous winners prove that SG Tee to Green and Greens in Regulation percentage (GIR%) are the top three predictors of success at this course. Below, I will give my best longshot to win the 2022 Wyndham Championship.

Russell Knox (+15000): 0.1u

At 150/1, Russell Knox is worth taking a flyer on to capture his third career PGA TOUR victory. Fresh off a T37 finish at the Rocket Mortgage Classic, Knox will look to have solid back-to-back outings on Donald Ross-designed courses.

This year will be Knox’s seventh career appearance at Sedgefield Country Club, where he has been consistently good but not good enough. Over those previous six appearances, Knox has made the cut five times and boasts two top-30 finishes.

What could push Knox over the top this year? His iron play.

Knox’s irons are extremely dialed in this season, as evidenced by the fact that he ranks 32nd on TOUR in SG Approach the Green and 44th in SG Tee to Green. This strong iron play has made Knox one of the most consistent green finders on TOUR, ranking fourth this season in GIR%.

We saw this iron play displayed at Knox’s sixth-place finish at THE PLAYERS Championship, which featured a field much deeper than this week’s. With all of this in mind, I think Knox should at least make the cut and compete over the weekend.

If Knox’s irons are as dialed in as they were at THE PLAYERS, then he is absolutely worthy of a small wager at 150/1.

Other Outright Winner Plays:

  • Russell Henley (25/1): 0.4u
  • Aaron Wise (40/1): 0.3u
  • Martin Laird (90/1): 0.2u

Best of luck!
