2020 NFL Draft Prop Bets: Jeff Okudah’s Draft Position

As we continue to dive into the 2020 NFL Draft over/unders, one player that has become a hot topic of conversation is Ohio State cornerback Jeffrey Okudah. He’s the top corner in the draft and many people expect him to be a perfect fit for the Detroit Lions at No. 3. However, if they trade out of the spot or if the battle for Tua Tagovailoa heats up, Okudah could end up dropping.

Jeff Okukah Draft Position At 888Sport
Scenario No. 1: Okudah Goes In The Top Four
If Okudah does go in the top four of the draft, only one of the four teams currently slotted in the top four would have any real reason to pick him. The Cincinnati Bengals are going to take Joe Burrow of LSU because they need a quarterback of the future and they need a ticket-seller. The Washington Redskins need to take Chase Young because he is a monster pass rusher who can substantially improve the Redskins’ defense the way Nick Bosa improved the San Francisco 49ers’ defense this past season. Washington needs Young’s upside. He is way too good for the Redskins to either pass on or trade down to another team at No. 2. The New York Giants, picking at No. 4 in the draft and while they need lots of defensive help, they probably aren’t looking at a cornerback after drafting one in the first round last season and signing James Bradberry to a big contract in the offseason.
If one team does take Okudah in the top four, it will certainly be the Detroit Lions at No. 3. The Lions shipped Quandre Diggs to the Seahawks midway through the 2019 NFL regular season, and then also traded Darius Slay to the Philadelphia Eagles in the offseason. The Lions badly need help in the secondary, probably more than any other position group on their roster, with the possible exception of offensive line.
Scenario No. 2: Okudah Falls To No. 5 Or Later
Okudah to the Lions makes too much sense. The only question is will they try to trade back and get him at No. 5. This seems to be what we’re looking at here.
There seems to be an ongoing battle between the Miami Dolphins and Los Angeles Chargers for Tua Tagovailoa. The Chargers will do their best to move up and Detroit can conceivably trade back a few spots and still get the guy they’re looking for. The Lions probably aren’t worried that anyone at No. 4, No. 5 or No. 6 will take a corner – especially since the Chargers and Dolphins both need quarterbacks.
That’s the concern here as the smart move would be for them to move back. Will anyone give them enough to move up? Will they actually get a deal done? It’s hard to say but if there are no trades, Okudah goes No. 3. If there are trades, he’ll probably go fifth or later.
Bet The Over
I think a lot of people will look at the lines here and hammer the under at plus-money thinking that he’s a sure-best to go fourth or sooner. However, I actually think a trade is going to happen. The Lions can move down a couple of spots without worrying about losing the player they want. They need help at multiple positions, so why not get an extra second or third-round player. The NFL Draft Value chart actually shows the Lions could be in line for a second-rounder if the Dolphins or Chargers want to trade up.
Overall, I’m passing on this prop but if I had to choose, it would be the over at -167.
