As a sports bettor, the Covid-19 outbreak has significantly limited the number of options that we have to get down action on. For those who don’t have an appetite for Nicaraguan soccer or Russian table tennis, the 2020 NFL Draft is now less than a month away and offers ample opportunity for bettors to get down.

More so than even recent years, which have offered a plethora, there are seemingly unlimited prop bets on this April’s Draft on everything from odds on each position drafted, to over-under picks for dozens of players.

At the quarterback position, there are as many as four options who have a legitimate chance of going in the first round. To the clear number one overall pick in Joe Burrow, to more debated options such as Tua Tagovailoa and Justin Herbert, there’s no shortage of gunslingers that could see the field in 2020.

One such gunslinger, Utah State product Jordan Love, has been a constant source of debate as projections have him going anywhere from top 15 to the third or fourth round. While mock drafts and opinions will render useless in just over three weeks time, bettors who think they have the answer can set themselves up to profit on April 23rd when first-round picks are told their new homes.

Let’s take a look at one such prop featuring Love from our good friends over at FanDuel and you can view all of our 2020 NFL Draft Prop Bets here.

Jordan Love Draft Position – Over/Under 17.5

If Love had been a junior instead of a senior in 2018, there’s little doubt top-10 aspirations would certainly have been a reasonable proposition. Under the offensive-minded head coach Matt Wells, Love threw for 3,567 yards, 32 touchdowns and just six interceptions over the course of a fantastic sophomore season that ultimately catapulted Wells to the head coach job at Texas Tech.

Without Wells leading the offense, Love struggled to find consistency under new coach Gary Anderson, as 2019 saw his numbers regress, throwing for 3,402 yards, 20 touchdowns, and a staggering 17 interceptions. As a product of this fall-off, Love’s draft stock was the next number to drop.

At 6’4″ 224 pounds, Love certainly has the physical characteristics to succeed at the next level and though I believe it to be overrated, NFL scouts still seem to put a fair amount of stock into it. Even with the ability to see over the line, Love’s downfield ability was a constant cause for pause this season, as his inability to look off defenders led in part to his 17 interceptions.

The bottom line for me is despite his clear lack of desire to play for Anderson and the new staff, a senior season would’ve certainly helped Love’s draft stock as the last product the NFL saw was a mediocre one at best. While I do think a team will take a chance on him given his upside as a pure athlete, raw talent and cannon of an arm, I don’t see it being until the last picks of the first, or early second at best.

Looking at the early second, the Lions, Buccaneers & Colts are three teams who I could see taking a chance on a guy they are comfortable with giving a year or two develop behind proven veterans.

Pick: OVER 17.5
