As the rest of the sports world has or is in the process of making significant scheduling changes due to COVID-19, the NFL has been steadfast on keeping their’s intact. As we’ve seen with free agency, the 2020 NFL Draft will take place as scheduled, shifting from Las Vegas to a completely digital setting with video conferencing setting the stage.

In today’s piece, let’s take a look at the quarterback position and how many quarterbacks we can expect to be taken in the first round. The odds are courtesy of our friends over at PointsBet. Here are all of our 2020 NFL Draft Prop Bets.

Joe Burrow

Unless something completely unforeseen happens, the Cincinnati Bengals will be taking Burrow with the first overall pick of this year’s draft. An Ohio native, Burrow went on one of the most historic runs in the history of college football, and the Bengals are in desperate need of an identity, and it all starts with the quarterback position.

Tua Tagovailoa

While the second quarterback taken in April’s draft is much less clear than the first, by all accounts, Tagovailoa will almost certainly be taken inside the top 10. As he recovers from a brutal hip injury that may sideline him for his rookie season, he’s said to be making nothing but progress, and his upside in years two and beyond is risk teams are willing to take.

The Chargers at number six make the most sense to me for Tua, as he can learn from a similar style player in Tyrod Taylor and transition into the franchise quarterback for years to come. They will, of course, have to hope the Dolphins pass on him before they get their chance.

Justin Herbert

Whether it’s before or after Tua, Herbert will also almost undoubtedly go inside the top 10 before it’s all said and done. Even though he might have lost some footing in the draft by coming back for his senior season, Herbert is still a physical specimen who coaches are chomping at the bit to get their hands on, so that they can mold him into their franchise guy. If the Dolphins decide to go with Tua, I fully expect Herbert to be a Charger at the end of the evening.

Jordan Love

As the draft gets closer, Utah State product Jordan Love is rumored to be shooting up draft boards as comparisons to the Saint’s Taysom Hill fly. Also likely taking a draft stock hit by returning for a final season, Love’s physical attributes and acumen will prove too appealing to pass up in the first round. If he slips to the back half of the first, I could see the Jaguars taking a flyer on him with current starter Gardner Minshew far from a proven commodity in Jacksonville.

Bottom Line?

Looking further down the list of potential quarterbacks that could be taken in the first round, Jacob Eason out of Washington and Jake Fromm out of Georgia are the only two I see of having a remote possibility. While they are capable of fighting for backup positions and will likely get drafted in the early second, there’s just too much talent at the other skilled positions and defense for a fifth quarterback to slip into the first.
