With the 2020 NFL Draft now inside of a month away, sports fans across the country are looking forward to a shred of normalcy as the draft is expected to carry on per usual, just over videoconferencing instead of in-person. As with most years, and even more so in this one, sportsbooks everywhere are adding a plethora of draft-related props for bettors salivating for action to get on.

For the top players in the draft, our friends over at FanDuel Sportsbook have even posted odds for which teams specific players will go to. Everyone from Oklahoma quarterback Jalen Hurts to Alabama wide receiver Jerry Jeudy has props posted for where they’ll go in April’s draft.

On the defensive side of the ball, one player reigns supreme in the 2020 class: Chase Young.

With the first pick in the draft, the Cincinnati Bengals (+1400) are all but sure to go with top prospect Joe Burrow who is an Ohio kid and the hottest overall commodity in the 2020 class. The Washington Redskins (-430), who have the second pick, are who oddsmakers like the most to secure Young. Even still, fans of the Lions (+270), Giants (+700) and Chargers (+1500) hope he slides past #2 so they can secure the best pass-rusher the college game has seen in close to a decade. At 6’5″/264 pounds, Young dominated Big Ten offensive lines throughout his sophomore and junior year and if it not for the stellar senior season by Burrow, could be the top pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. Short of an unforeseen off the field disaster, it’s a mortal lock that Young will be the first non-quarterback taken later this month.

Lighting quick off the edge, Young has a collection of moves to go with his superior strength that altered the course of games during his time as a Buckeye. In his final season at Ohio State, Young tallied 16.5 sacks to go along with 46 tackles, six forced fumbles, three passes batted and even a blocked kick. Where Young goes later this month will ultimately come down to how badly the teams in front of him want a quarterback, and nothing else.

As a new regime takes control in DC, nothing is off the table as far as trading the #2 pick goes, or going with a quarterback that Ron Rivera can call his own. The future-in-waiting Dwayne Haskins did very little last season to prove he’s the guy, granted he had nothing around him. In fact, Haskins was said to be the choice of owner Dan Snyder, not former head coach Jay Gruden.

The bottom line, defensive ends rarely alter the course of franchises; quarterbacks do. With that in mind, if from a health standpoint Rivera feels comfortable in Tua Tagovailoa, the kid clearly possesses the leadership characteristics and talent to take an NFL team to the next level. At a minimum, it provides Haskins with a level of competition and lights a spark in the quarterback room for years to come.

From a value perspective, I like the Redskins to alter course at the quarterback position and the Lions to be waiting in the wings to snatch up Young with the third pick in the 2020 NFL Draft.

Prediction: Lions +270
