Rejoice bettors, NFL Draft season is upon us. The 2020 NFL Draft will be an entertaining and welcomed distraction for football fans, and casual sports fans alike. There is still no clear end to the suspension of the seasons of the other major North American sports leagues, so getting your sports fix now calls for being overly invested in the NFL Draft and the draft process, watching classic games and fights, or looking overseas to table tennis or Russian volleyball.

Suffice it to say that the NFL Draft, and there associated NFL Draft props, could not be here at a better time. This is likely a small part of the reason that the NFL’s leadership was so adamant about carrying on business as usual as far as it pertained to free agency, and the NFL Draft, even if it meant meetings, and even the draft itself would have to be done virtually. This draft prop we will be looking at today is what team will draft the 2020 NFL Draft’s top receiver in the eyes of many in Alabama’s Jerry Jeudy. This prop is offered by FanDuel and has quite a few teams listed with odds, so we will endeavor to discuss each one. Let’s dig in.

Jerry Jeudy (WR – Alabama)

Widely considered the most talented wide receiver in the 2020 NFL Draft class, Jerry Jeudy is an exciting prospect. He can create separation at will and will be able to transform whatever offense he lands in to one of the most talented in the league. He runs great routes and shines on all four levels (including at or behind the line of scrimmage). He can win downfield, and in the red zone, and could become one of the top receivers in the league once he develops his mean streak.

Jeudy may not be as polished as CeeDee Lamb, but there is little doubt as to who has more upside. He was able to win the Biletnikoff award as a true sophomore despite playing with three other wide receivers who will more than likely be first-round picks in Henry Ruggs (2020), Devonta Smith (2021), and Jaylen Waddle (2021). In fact, if Smith did not come out of nowhere to lead the team in receiving in 2019, we could very well be talking about a two time top two finisher in the Heisman race. Jeudy is expected to be a high first-round pick, but the question and speculation remain as to which team will actually come calling on draft day.

Las Vegas Raiders (+195)
The Las Vegas Raiders will be highly interested in Jerry Jeudy if he is still on the board. Las Vegas is desperate for a number one receiver, and Jerry Jeudy just may be their guy at 12th overall. They will likely wait on the receiver position if a prospect like Jeffrey Okudah, Derrick Brown, or Isaiah Simmons slips to them, so this is far from a sure bet. The fact that the team listed after them in FanDuel’s odds also needs a wide receiver and actually picks before them complicates matters. The odds here are way off for value bettors as the +195 odds imply a 33.9 percent chance of winning. This number is likely closer to 10 to 15 percent which means the odds should be +567 to +900. With that being said, the Raiders remain one of the favorites to land Jerry Jeudy.

New York Jets (+250)
The New York Jets are in dire need of a number one wide receiver, especially after de facto number one Robby Anderson bolted in free agency to reunite with his former college coach Matt Rhule. New York has a host of other needs to address but will be very tempted to draft either Jerry Jeudy or CeeDee Lamb. If the Jets were smart, they would address the offensive line or defensive line on day one, while then spending one or two of their day two picks on the wideout position.

With that being said, it has been quite a long time (since they drafted Jamal Adams) since anyone has accused the Jets of being smart. Again, the odds here present zero value, as the +250 odds imply a 28.6 percent chance of this wager clicking. As you will see as we progress through our analysis, the sum of the odds for this wager will be well over 100 percent, suggesting that there will not be value for any team listed under +600.

San Francisco 49ers (+340)
The San Francisco 49ers are expected to go all-in on an elite wideout if both Derrick Brown and Javon Kinlaw are off the board. Isaiah Simmons and Jeffrey Okudah should also be added to that list, as they are two can’t miss prospects that Kyle Shanahan will refuse to pass on. Now armed with the 13th overall pick, the 49ers should use this opportunity to draft a true impact player but will be tempted to trade back a few spots, while also shopping the 31st overall pick. If the 49ers keep this pick Jerry Jeudy will be squarely in play.

Denver Broncos (+600)
If you listen to the mock drafts out there, this is expected to be Jerry Jeudy’s draft floor. The Broncos need a 1a or a 1b to pair with Courtland Sutton as DaeSean Hamilton was a bitter disappointment in 2019. The Broncos would likely be better served addressing the Chris Harris sized hole at cornerback, as the recently acquired A.J. Bouye is an expensive stopgap at best, and is no one’s idea of a number one corner. With that being said, John Elway marches to the beat of his own drum, so the Broncos drafting a wideout like Jeudy at 15th overall should not be ruled out.

Arizona Cardinals (+1400)
The Arizona Cardinals at eighth overall appears to be Jerry Jeudy’s absolute ceiling. Arizona loaded up on wideouts during the 2019 NFL Draft but may be interested in drafting Larry Fitzgerald’s true successor in the first round. Adding DeAndre Hopkins should keep the Cardinals from making this move, but Kliff Kingsbury has already proven that his wide receiver room is one of his internal priorities. The Cardinals are listed at +1400 (6.7 percent implied odds) due to the quality of players that will undoubtedly still be on the board when it is their time to make their first-round selection. Arizona is expected to go offensive line or defensive front with their day one pick.

Philadelphia Eagles (+1400)
If Jerry Jeudy falls to the Philadelphia Eagles at 21st overall, the Eagles front office will likely be doing backflips. If he makes it past Denver at 15th overall, the Eagles will likely look into the cost of trading up to acquire Jeudy. The Miami Dolphins and the Oakland Raiders are on the board for their second first-round picks at 18th and 19th overall, and will likely need to be leapfrogged if the Eagles are truly intent on selecting the former Biltnekoff winner from Alabama. The +1400 odds here suggest a 6.7 percent chance that the Eagles will draft Jerry Jeudy. The true number is likely five percent or lower, as a trade-up is likely the only way a wide receiver many view as the best in the class lasts all the way until 21.

Buffalo Bills (+1800)
The Buffalo Bills do not pick until 54th overall after trading away their first-round pick to acquire the services of Stefon Diggs. Ignore this option as the Bills will not pay the ransom to move back into the first round to acquire a player like Jerry Jeudy.

Miami Dolphins (+1800)
The Miami Dolphins are actually where I had Jerry Jeudy land in my first mock draft of the season. While fifth overall is out of the question, it would be a surprise to see them pass on him at 18th overall. The Dolphins just paid DeVante Parker, and have UDFA star Preston Williams on the roster, but neither wideout has the type of talent of Jeudy. The Jeudy pick would be even more intriguing if the Dolphins were to draft his former college quarterback Tua Tagovailoa as expected. The Dolphins have other needs but have enough draft ammo to take the best player available multiple times during the draft.

New England Patriots (+1900)
Bill Belichick landing a Nick Saban wideout? The Patriots have a lot of needs, but as last season no doubt proved, wide receiver is one of them. It is doubtful that someone who had not picked a first-round wide receiver in 15 plus seasons suddenly drafts one in two consecutive years. N’Keal Harry was a massive disappointment (partially due to injury) and may have Bill once again skittish about spending first-round draft capital on any wideout, even one that comes from the school of his good friend Nick Saban. New England would very likely be required to trade up to land Jeudy. Surrendering additional assets to land a wideout is inconsistent with ‘The Hoodies’ modus operandi.

New York Giants (+2900)
With Dave Gettleman at the helm, the New York Giants will be a perpetual candidate to shock the world with their draft selections. The Giants are expected to select an offensive lineman, or a player like Derrick Brown, Jeffrey Okudah, or Isaiah Simmons, but eschewing the consensus and drafting Jerry Jeudy or CeeDee Lamb would be very on-brand. If the Giants end up trading down, selecting Jeudy will become a much more realistic scenario.

Carolina Panthers (+3400)
After signing Robby Anderson in free agency, someone new head coach Matt Rhule has a high opinion of from their time together at Temple, the Carolina Panthers are likely not in the market for a first-round wide receiver. They have a host of other needs, and would still be unlikely to draft a wide receiver if they traded down into the 20s. Carolina would be wise to add to their receivers room at some point in the draft, but there is a non-zero-percent chance it happens in round one.

Detroit Lions (+3400)
The Detroit Lions are a strong trade down candidate as discussed here, but they would still likely be targeting Jeffrey Okudah or another defensive stalwart. Detroit could use a 1a or 1b type across from Kenny Golladay, as Marvin Jones is no one’s idea of an ideal second option on a team with championship or even playoff aspirations. Detroit would likely have to trade back to the mid-teens or later to even consider Jerry Jeudy, as third overall is simply too high for a receiver to be taken in such a loaded draft class.

Dallas Cowboys (+4000)
The Dallas Cowboys re-signed Amari Cooper to a monster deal this offseason, and as such are unlikely to pursue a wide receiver in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft. Michael Gallup is a high-level number two receiver, and while Randall Cobb showed that the Cowboys are indeed at their best with a competent number three, there is enough wide receiver talent in this draft class for them to address the position with one of their later picks. The Cowboys are most likely to use their first-round pick on a cornerback, offensive lineman, or a defensive lineman.

Jacksonville Jaguars (+4000)
The Jacksonville Jaguars have two first-round picks and are an oddly enough run franchise to mess around and take Jerry Jeudy at ninth overall despite having too many other priorities to count. With that being said, common sense should prevail in the Jaguars’ virtual draft room, and the picks should be all defense in the first round. There is enough wide receiver talent in this draft class for the Jaguars to walk away with two starters on day three. With that being said, if Jeudy slips to 20th overall, he will be seriously considered.

Los Angeles Chargers (+4000)
There is a very slim chance the Los Angeles Chargers draft Jerry Jeudy. Not only do they have other needs, but they appear to be all but assured to draft a quarterback at sixth overall. The Chargers will likely be looking into trade-up offers to ensure they land their target QB, but the current plan is for them to draft either Tua Tagovailoa or Justin Herbert. However, if they fail to trade up, and Joe Burrow, Tua, and Herbert are all off the board, all bets are off. The Chargers could choose to go a number of directions if all of their target signal-callers are gone, but with Keenan Allen and Mike Williams already in tow, the most likely scenario would be to see Los Angeles use their pick on an offensive lineman or one of the massive upside defensive talents that would slip to them at sixth overall.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers (+4000)
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver room is already one of the most talented in the NFL. Adding Jeudy would be a pure luxury pick, but a potential game-changing one at that. Tampa Bay has bigger needs on the offensive line, at cornerback, and at defensive end, for them to spend a first-round pick on a wide receiver. The Buccaneers need a true number three after Breshad Perriman to free agency but are likely to look to address their receiver room on day three.

Cleveland Browns (+5000)
Are there scenarios where it makes sense for the Cleveland Browns to draft Jerry Jeudy? Sure. However, it would likely require a trade back, and for the Browns to have progressed deep into talks to move either Odell Beckham Jr. or Jarvis Landry in a salary-shedding move. Cleveland will likely be looking to acquire a wideout from this draft class, but that will not happen until day two or day three. Barring a significant trade down, it is highly unlikely that Cleveland drafts any receiver on day one.

Green Bay Packers (+5000)
The Green Bay Packers would have to trade up to acquire the services of Jerry Jeudy. They currently hold the 30th overall pick, and there is no way Jeudy lasts that long. Pairing Davante Adams with Jerry Jeudy would be a match made in heaven, especially for Jeudy, as he would get to hone his craft alongside one of the NFL’s best route runners.

New Orleans Saints (+5000)
Like the Green Bay Packers, the New Orleans Saints would have to trade up in order to land Jerry Jeudy. They currently hold the 24th overall pick and are expected to lean defense with their first. There is a chance that New Orleans drafts a first-round wide receiver, but the more likely scenario is that they opt to select one late on day two, or early on day three. What is almost certain is that even if they do end up drafting a day one wide receiver, they will not be picking high enough to land Jerry Jeudy.

Conclusion

Jerry Jeudy is a highly intriguing receiver who could instantly help change the course of whatever offense he lands on. Based on our discussion above, it appears that Jeudy’s draft ceiling begins at about ninth overall to the Jacksonville Jaguars, and his disaster scenario floor is the Philadelphia Eagles at 21st overall (his normal floor would be the Broncos at 15th overall). There are really no true values on the board, and there are four landing spots that make enough sense to lay some action. There is limited hedge opportunity here, so the recommendation is to go for a straight-up taste.

Las Vegas should be the favorite, but if Jon Gruden gets involved, he will likely push for CeeDee Lamb over Jerry Jeudy. At +195, the Raiders will still be worth consideration. The Jets are interesting at +250 and have been commonly linked to a wideout in mock drafts, but they have too many other needs and are not a value whatsoever at their current odds.

The San Francisco 49ers may be the most intriguing team here as they are listed at +340, and are the only team picking in the top 15 that can afford to make a luxury pick and simply take the best player available. Denver is the darkhorse if Jeudy remains on the board that long, but John Elway would be making a huge mistake if he chose not to draft the best cornerback available after losing Chris Harris to free agency.

The pick: San Francisco 49ers (+340)
