2022 Tour de France Stage 16 Betting Preview, Guide, Odds, Predictions

The riders remain in Carcassonne as they get ready for the final six stages of the 2022 Tour de France, which pauses today for its final day of rest. Stage 16 will start early on Tuesday from Carcassonne to Foix, with the main sprint to choose Monday in Paris getting started.

Jasper Philipsen of Belgium set the fastest time in Stage 15 to win the Yellow Jacket, although none of the top three finishers in the stage made it into the top 10 in the overall standings. Danish rider Jonas Vingegaard, who had been in the lead since Stage 11, lost some time on the trip from Rodez to Carcassonne but still managed to keep it.

Due to Primoz Roglic’s continued absence after colliding during earlier parts of the race, teammate Vingegaard is under increased scrutiny. The situation worsened for Vingegaard and team Jumbo-Visa after Stage 15’s incident knocked Steven Kruiswijk, a former top-three finisher in the Tour de France, out of contention.  In fact, Vingegaard was involved in the same crash but managed to escape unharmed, helping him to keep the lead and remain the odds on favorite.

Let’s look more closely at the approaching Stage 16 and how things can pan out in the end when a winner is crowned in Paris on July 24th.

Tour de France Best Bets

Top 3 – Romain Bardet (+225)

Monday marked the first full day of rest for the racers for the first time since July 11th. Looking ahead to Stage 16, this stage should be relatively tranquil for them, as the hardest climbs of the race lie just around the corner. The first 110 kilometers of the 178-kilometer route will be generally flat, but the latter 68 kilometers are full of steep, narrow slopes that most riders will be trying to avoid crashes at all costs.

For me, all signs point toward French rider Romain Bardet, who sits just 18 seconds off of third place with six stages left. Based on the odds board and how things have played out thus far, Bardet has the best remaining value in the race to the podium. In 2019, the Frenchman won the Mountains Classification of the Tour de France and is widely known as one of the best mountain riders in the world.

A former three-stage winner in the 2017 edition of the Tour de France, Bardet also has some success this season, winning the 2022 Tour de Alps earlier this year. I like for him to finish high in this one, starting with a strong Stage 16.
