2022 US Open: Cori Gauff Betting Odds, Preview & Prediction

Seven women have won the U.S. Open in the last eight years, as only Naomi Osaka has won multiple titles in that span. Thus, the women’s game has significantly evolved and provided much more parity than Kim Clijsters and Serena Williams combining for six U.S. Open titles in seven years from 2008-14.

Speaking of Serena Williams, she is tied for the 13th-best odds to win this year’s title, but the storyline and backdrop for the entire tournament will be that this is her last U.S. Open, as she announced her retirement following the Grand Slam.

This is the first annual BettingPros Guide to the U.S. Open, where we will highlight several of the top contenders from both the Men’s and Women’s Draws.

Will an eighth different woman in nine years add her name to the list of U.S. Open champions? Will Serena Williams write a storybook ending for arguably the best career ever in women’s tennis?

Read on for our thoughts and predictions for Cori Gauff at the U.S. Open in 2022.

Cori Gauff U.S. Open History

Gauff made the most of her wild card entry into the singles and doubles draws of the U.S. Open in 2019. She won her first two singles matches in three sets but was ousted by then world No. 1 and defending champion Naomi Osaka. Gauff’s luck at the U.S. Open has not been great since, losing in the first and second rounds the following two years.

Cori Gauff Recent Form

Gauff suffered a massive scare in her last match in Cincinnati when she was forced to retire with an ankle injury. At the time of the injury, Gauff was trailing 5-6 in the first set against Marie Bouzkova but proceeded to lose the next two games and was forced to retire at 0-1 in the second set. However, she declared it was a minor sprain and will be good to compete this week at the U.S. Open.

Gauff had risen to No. 11 in the world rankings after making the finals at Roland Garros in June. However, arguably her greatest accomplishment this season is earning the No. 1 ranking in doubles after winning the Canadian Open with partner Jessica Pegula.

Cori Gauff U.S. Open Predictions

Gauff’s quarter looks the most difficult to predict, as it is the only quarter with three women (Simona Halep and Caroline Garcia, the others) with +500 odds or shorter to reach the semifinals. Whatever woman makes it out of this quarter will have earned it. And provided they have something left in the tank, they would be highly favored to go on to win the title. Thus, with so many potential landmines before the semifinals, the best way to get onside Gauff winning the U.S. Open is to predict that someone from her quarter will go on to victory, which acts as a hedge of sorts.

The Pick: Third Quarter Winner to Win the U.S. Open (+210 on DraftKings)
