2022 US Open: Naomi Osaka Betting Odds, Preview & Prediction

Seven women have won the U.S. Open in the last eight years, as only Naomi Osaka has won multiple titles in that span. Thus, the women’s game has significantly evolved and provided much more parity than Kim Clijsters and Serena Williams combining for six U.S. Open titles in seven years from 2008-14.

Speaking of Serena Williams, she is tied for the 13th-best odds to win this year’s title, but the storyline and backdrop for the entire tournament will be that this is her last U.S. Open, as she announced her retirement following the Grand Slam.

This is the first annual BettingPros Guide to the U.S. Open, where we will highlight several of the top contenders from both the Men’s and Women’s Draws.

Will an eighth different woman in nine years add her name to the list of U.S. Open champions? Will Serena Williams write a storybook ending for arguably the best career ever in women’s tennis?

Read on for our thoughts and predictions for Naomi Osaka at the U.S. Open in 2022.

Naomi Osaka U.S. Open History

If Naomi Osaka were to win another U.S. Open title this year, she would become the 20th woman to win at least three. Her 85% winning percentage (22-4 career record) at Flushing Meadows is the best at all the Grand Slams, and the U.S. Open is also the only major in which she has not been eliminated before the third round.

Naomi Osaka Recent Form

Osaka has many question marks surrounding her as she enters the U.S. Open. She is 2-6 in her last eight matches, which has caused her to tumble to No. 44 in the world rankings. In addition, she has battled numerous injuries recently, as an Achilles injury forced her to withdraw from Wimbledon, and she retired in her first-round match in Toronto (Canadian Open), citing lower back pain.

Since losing to the best player on tour, Iga Swiatek, at the finals in Miami in April, Osaka has not won more than one match in five WTA events and has made three first-round exits.

Naomi Osaka U.S. Open Predictions

Naomi Osaka’s odds have plummeted in recent weeks from as high as +900 now to +2500 in the wake of her recent injury. The four-time Grand Slam winner has not advanced beyond the third round of a major since winning the 2021 Australian Open and now opens this tournament against Danielle Collins, who was ranked as high as No. 7 in the world just a month ago. Osaka should have enough to win the tricky first-round match against Collins (2-0 head-to-head against her in her career). Still, she is not fit enough or playing well enough to beat out Aryna Sabalenka, Elena Rybakina, Emma Raducanu, Belinda Bencic, and others in her own quarter.
