2022 Wimbledon: Coco Gauff Betting Odds, Preview & Prediction

On the Men’s side, Novak Djokovic, Roger Federer, and Andy Murray have combined to win the previous ten Wimbledon titles. On the Women’s side, there has been much more parity, as Wimbledon has crowned a different champion each of the last five years. The closest thing to dominance in that span has been Serena Williams, who has won three titles and finished runner-up on two other occasions. However, there has been an overall dominant force on the WTA for the last several months, as Iga Swiatek has won 35 consecutive matches, tying Venus Williams’ mark for the longest consecutive match winning streak by a woman in this century.

The Women’s Draw received a big jolt with the inclusion of Serena Williams, who will play her first tournament in 12 months. However, there are also notable absences, such as Aryna Sabalenka, Daria Kasatkina, Victoria Azarenka, and Ekaterina Alexandrova, as Wimbledon has banned all players from Russia and Belarus due to the ongoing war in the Ukraine. And most-recently, Naomi Osaka announced she would miss Wimbledon because of an Achilles injury. However, she was also critical of Wimbledon feeling like an exhibition this year as the tournament temporarily did away with ranking points.

This is the first annual BettingPros Guide to Wimbledon, where we will highlight several of the top contenders from both the Men’s and Women’s Draws.

Is any player poised to challenge Swiatek and end her historic winning streak? Will any woman break through for their first Grand Slam title with a somewhat compromised Wimbledon field?

Read on for our thoughts and predictions for Coco Gauff at Wimbledon 2022.

Coco Gauff Wimbledon History

Gauff has won three matches in each of her first two Wimbledon appearances before losing in the fourth round in both years. In 2021, Gauff won her first three matches in straight sets before losing to No. 25 seed Angelique Kerber 4-6, 4-6. In 2019, she dropped one set in her first three matches, with her most significant win coming against her childhood idol Venus Williams in the first round. However, she was eventually ousted by No. 7 seed Simona Halep in straight sets.

Coco Gauff Recent Form

After making a deep run in Berlin at the Bett1Open, Gauff withdrew from the Eastbourne Invitational to rest up for Wimbledon. Gauff had a chance to reach her first-ever grass-court final but relinquished an early 3-0 first set lead to Ons Jabeur and lost in straight sets. Gauff is looking to build upon her best-ever Grand Slam result as runner-up at Roland Garros.

Coco Gauff Wimbledon Predictions

The Pick: The Field vs. Swiatek/Gauff to Win (-150 on FanDuel)

Gauff’s play in Berlin was the closest she has come to a title on grass. She had not previously reached the quarterfinals in any grass tournament but seems on the precipice of breaking through at Wimbledon after two fourth-round appearances. She will look to build off the momentum of a quarterfinal win in Berlin over last year’s Wimbledon runner-up, Karolina Pliskova, defeating her 7-5, 6-4.

Gauff’s pre-tournament odds tumbled from +900 to +1300, with most declaring that she was placed in the “quarter of death.” Gauff will have to navigate a quarter loaded with Paula Badosa, Karolina Pliskova, Simona Halep, and Serena Williams just for the right to play in the semifinals. Halep and Pliskova have won Wimbledon or been runner-up in the last two tournaments. Even Gauff’s potential third-round match against fellow American Amanda Anisimova could be tricky. Thus, we are not backing Gauff to make a second consecutive Grand Slam final, let alone backing her +250 odds to win her quarter.
