2022 Wimbledon: Felix Auger-Aliassime Betting Odds, Preview & Prediction

Rafael Nadal is halfway to the calendar Grand Slam after winning the first two of the season, the Australian Open and French Open. However, considering just two men have ever won the calendar Grand Slam (Don Budge in 1938 and Rod Laver in 1962 and 1969), the odds are stacked against him, making things feel wide open entering Wimbledon.

Perhaps things are not that wide open, considering Novak Djokovic has won each of the last three Wimbledon titles. Djokovic, Roger Federer, and Andy Murray have combined to win the previous ten Wimbledon titles. However, Federer will not play the tournament for the first time in more than two decades, and Murray is a shell of himself from the 2013 and 2016 titles now at age 35.

In addition to Federer’s profound absence, Wimbledon will also be played without world No. 1 Daniil Medvedev or Andrey Rublev on the Men’s side, as Wimbledon has banned all players from Russia and Belarus due to the ongoing war in the Ukraine. Lastly, world No. 2 Alexander Zverev’s absence will be felt, as he remains sidelined after undergoing surgery for an ankle injury he suffered at the French Open. As a result, this is the first time since the ATP started ranking players that the top two players would miss Wimbledon.

This is the first annual BettingPros Guide to Wimbledon, where we will highlight several of the top contenders from both the Men’s and Women’s Draws.

Without the world’s top two ranked players, is Djokovic a shoo-in for his fourth consecutive and seventh career Wimbledon title? Will Nadal keep his quest for the calendar Grand Slam alive? What longer shot is best positioned to make a run and claim their first Wimbledon championship?

Felix Auger-Aliassime Wimbledon History

Felix Auger-Aliassime has appeared in just two Wimbledons and has amassed a 6-2 overall record to this point. On his way to the quarterfinals last year, Auger-Aliassime defeated Nick Kyrgios and No. 4 seed Alexander Zverev (in a thrilling five-set match) back-to-back before losing in four sets to eventual runner-up Matteo Berrettini in the quarterfinals.

Felix Auger-Aliassime Recent Form

Auger-Aliassime likely did not take much solace in losing to Rafael Nadal at Roland Garros. Still, the young Canadian gave the eventual champion his most challenging match of the tournament, as he was the only one to push him to five sets. FAA has stayed active since the French Open, as he is one of the only higher-seeded players to play in two tune-up tournaments since. He is ranked in the top ten of the ATP rankings for the first time in his career and won his first ATP Tour title in Rotterdam in February. Though he lost 7-6, 7-6 in the quarterfinals at Halle to Hubert Hurkacz, the match featured no breaks of serve and just one break point chance in the entire match.

Felix Auger-Aliassime Wimbledon Predictions

The Pick: Auger-Aliassime to Win The Quarter (+350 on DraftKings)

Auger-Aliassime is our biggest underdog play to win his quarter at Wimbledon. The Canadian is poised to go one round further than his quarterfinal appearance last year. If he were to face Nadal in the quarterfinals, he would likely be confident given how well he battled him on the Spaniard’s best surface. This time around, Nadal may be much more limited by an injury than he was at Roland Garros, and Nadal is open about admitting grass is not his preferred surface.

Auger-Aliassime’s other stiff competition could come from Taylor Fritz, and the American won their only head-to-head matchup on hard court at the ATP Cup. However, Fritz has not made it past the third round at Wimbledon nor appeared in a quarterfinal at any other Grand Slam event.

Auger-Alissame is part of an interesting prop wager at DraftKings, where he, Carlos Alcaraz, and Stefanos Tsitsipas have +600 odds as the “Next Gen” versus the field to win the title. While tempting, FAA would still have to win two more top-flight matches after the quarterfinals, so we are more than happy to back his +350 odds to win the quarter.
