2022 Winter Olympics Best Bets: Ski Jumping
The Olympics are underway, and we have had lots of excitement! We have had some ski jumping previously, which exposed a Simpsons-Esque power plant in the background that created a lot of backlash. The events that remain are the Men’s Large Hill Individuals, and Men’s Team Ski Jumping.

Men’s Large Hill:
Ryoyu Kobayashi, Japan (+300)
The world’s number one large hill ski jumper has really good odds here, and he has already taken gold in the normal hill at Beijing. He has been a part of 43 podiums in World Cup competition since 2019, including 26 first-place finishes. All in all, Kobayashi appears to be the class of Olympic Ski Jumping right now, and I don’t think we can bet against him. The Japanese ski jumping program has come to form in recent years, but at the Olympic level, they have yet to see a jumper like Ryoyu. They had one gold medal coming in, and they should have two more after these games.
SLEEPER: Halvor Egner Granerud, Norway (+750)
There is fantastic value in the world’s third-ranked ski jumper with the fourth shortest odds, yet there is a big gap between his odds and the top three. Just last year, Granerud was the world’s number one ski-jumper, and I think that he has sneaky value at 7.5:1. Norway dominated this sport when it first came to fruition, winning the first SIX gold medals ever, but has won just three out of a possible 32 events. You know he will have that extra motivation to bring glory back to Norway.
Men’s Team Ski Jumping:
Austria (+240)
They have moved into the position of odds on favorites, and I was surprised they weren’t there from the start. They are the defending World Cup champions and have been doing it at the highest level for years. They came to Beijing with no signs of slowing down. Austria is tied for the most medals all-time in Ski Jumping, but they have a chance here to tie Finland for the most gold medals in the sport as well.
SLEEPER: Norway (+430)
Norway has some of the best ski jumpers in all of the world. They have to view this as a real opportunity to all come together and prove that they belong among the royalty of the ski jumping world. They have performed well individually, and decently in the World Cup environment, and I think if Austria falters, Norway will be waiting to claim victory.
