2023 NFC East Team Predictions

Philadelphia Eagles Over 11.5 wins (+110 BetMGM)

Philadelphia played in the Super Bowl at the end of the 2022 season and acquired the best overall player in the NFL Draft with savvy draft moves by GM Howie Roseman. This team is stacked on both sides of the ball, and I have no fear that a Mike McCarthy-led Dallas Cowboys team is going to catch them in a weak NFC conference. Plus-money odds on the over. Sign me up. However, if I want to play it “safer” with a futures bet, I do much prefer the Eagles to win the NFC East straight up over the 11.5-win mark, especially since the line moved from 10.5 open. -115 to win the NFC East on FanDuel sportsbook. The only hesitation is that Philly stayed extremely healthy last year, and injuries could make things tougher on their projected output of wins. Also, their schedule was a JOKE in 2022 – the easiest in the NFL – so they will be forced to play in more competitive games. It’s great for Jalen Hurts, A.J. Brown and the offensive weapons to post fantasy stats – major positive regression candidates for passing TDs after leading all teams in rushing TD rate in 2022 – but might result in fewer victories. Per TeamRankings.com, Hurts threw 64% of his  TD passes before halftime in 2022.

New York Giants Under 7.5 Wins (-105 Caesars Sportsbook))

Big Problems in Big Blue. The Giants are playing seven of their first 10 games on the road this season. Last year, they boasted the NFL's easiest schedule preseason. With the Giants' schedule dramatically more difficult than last season, we could see them fail to live up to the expectations that they set after making the postseason in 2022. They have the most difficult strength of schedule for fantasy QBs, which could make life difficult for Daniel Jones. They also suffer from the fifth-worst rest advantage. Brian Daboll winning coach of the year in 2022 also foreshadows a potential step back in terms of wins, considering of the last nine winners, just two exceeded their win total from previous season. They averaged a 57%-win percentage after averaging a 77% win rate the year the coach won the award.

Dallas Cowboys Over 9.5 Wins (162 FanDuel Sportsbook)

Dallas has won 12 games in back-to-back seasons under Mike McCarthy.  And although I think the offense takes a slight step backward without OC Kellen Moore, Big D's defense and weak NFC make this a tough bet to side on the under, even at plus odds. The roster is just too talented to not be able to pull off double-digit wins. And it's not just me, as the consensus take on the Cowboys’ win total among analysts was also to bet the over from our win picks back in May.

Washington Commanders Under 6.5 wins (+110 BetMGM)

The Washington Commanders are relying on second-year QB Sam Howell to bring them back to relevance in the NFC East. However, that will be easier said than done. They have the 27th-ranked schedule based on their opponent's forecasted win totals - by far the toughest in their division that boasts two of the NFC's top quarterbacks. The team's draft was also horrible in my opinion, which won't help them win games. Taking the under at 6.5 (-120) on BetMGM seems like a lock. Head coach Ron Rivera has only won more than 7 games once (2022, 8) in three years as the Commanders' head coach.
