Wednesday’s Best Olympic Basketball Bets – Women
(Odds courtesy of DraftKings Sportsbook)
France vs. Germany
France made it into the knockout stage of the women’s bracket. However, it lost its most recent matchup against Australia, 79-72. France is led by Gabby Williams, who played for UConn from 2014-2018. She scored 15 points against Australia, but no other player added double-figures in the loss.
While France is deep and willing to play many players, it also lacks consistent bucket-getters. Marine Johannes is a notable name from Liberty. But she’s coming off the bench and just went 1-for-7 from three in that France loss.
Additionally, Australia shot 57.4% from the field against France in that game.
Meanwhile, Germany finished the group stage with a 2-1 record. The only loss was to the United States, which wasn’t surprising at all.
In a difficult group, Germany went 2-1 with wins over Belgium and Japan. The difference between France and Germany, is that Germany will play its starting rotation for nearly 75% of the game. Imagine what will happen when France reserves are facing off against Germany, when Germany has the best player on the court in Satou Sabally?
Let’s back Germany in this game at +205. If you feel more comfortable, you can also consider Germany +5.5.
Pick: Germany (+205)
USA vs. Nigeria
The United States of America is the world’s deepest women’s basketball team. They can go 12 deep and still get supreme production.
Against Germany, the United States didn’t even play Breanna Stewart for 20 minutes. Instead, they gave the bench some action, and Jackie Young scored 19 points in 27 minutes.
The United States has been getting the most consistent guard play. But, when Stewart and A’ja Wilson are together on the court, it is absolutely devastating for other teams. Those two have dominated the competition and are the Olympic’s best women’s basketball players.
They’ll take on Nigeria, which advanced to the knockout round with wins against Australia and Canada. Nigeria can’t be underestimated. They held Canada to only 70 points and defended well enough to force 26 turnovers. In addition, Nigeria held Canada to just 36.8% of the field.
They escaped with a win, even after losing the rebounding battle by 14. Nigeria has shown off some really good defense in this tournament. However, against the United States, none of this really applies. The United States is well-rested and is ready to put its foot on the gas.
I’ll back the United States at -26.5.
Pick: United States (-26.5)
