2024 Presidents Cup Picks & Predictions (Friday)
The United States once again dominated the first day of the Presidents Cup, sweeping all five four-ball matches. While all five matches were relatively close, the American pairings were able to close out the International team across the board to take a 5-0 lead going into Day 2. It was the third time the U.S. has swept Day 1, the last coming 24 years ago.
The International team will look to get on the board Friday in the Foursomes format and back into contention for the Cup over the weekend. If history is any indication, it will be quite the uphill battle for Captain Mike Weir’s squad but the talent is there for it to happen. The smart money, however, is on the American side continuing its domination of this event.

Scottie Scheffler/Russell Henley vs. Si Woo Kim/Byeong Hun An
U.S. captain Jim Furyk chose to pair the world’s best golfer and Russell Henley together again Friday in the alternate shot format. Scottie Scheffler and Russell Henley took the lead on the first hole Thursday against Sungjae Im and Tom Kim, and never gave it back, eventually closing out Im and Kim 3&2. There’s no reason to think Friday’s result will be any different against So Woo Kim and Byeong Hun An. Lay the heavy juice and back the Americans.
Pick: Scheffler/Henley (-145)
Xander Schauffele/Patrick Cantlay vs. Hideki Matsuyama/Sungjae Im
Xander Schauffele has a new partner Friday in the form of Patrick Cantlay. The two California natives should have no trouble working together in an alternate shot format. International captain Mike Weir took a similar route, pairing his two golfers from Japan together hoping to get some synergy out of the twosome. While there won’t be much conversation in the fairways between these two teams, the results shouldn’t change. The Americans should have the upper hand in this match comfortably.
Pick: Schauffele/Cantlay (-150)
Max Homa/Brian Harman vs. Christiaan Bezuidenhout/Jason Day
Brian Harman and Max Homa make their first appearance this week after sitting out Thursday’s Fourball matches. While Harman isn’t the longest hitter on the PGA Tour, he’s accurate and consistent. Both skills are critical to success in the alternate shot format. Christiann Bezuidenhout struggled Thursday and was unable to win a single hole for his team. His partner Friday, Jason Day, has struggled historically in these competitions as well. It’s not often you get a plus number for an American pairing in this competition. Take advantage of it.
Pick: Homa/Harman (+110)
