2026 Belmont Stakes Odds, Picks & Predictions: Golden Tempo
With the Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes in the rearview mirror, it’s time for the 2026 Belmont Stakes. The final jewel of the triple crown, the Test of the Champion, is typically the longest of the three races at a full 1.5 miles. However, the 2026 Belmont Stakes will run at the historic Saratoga Race Course in Saratoga Springs, N.Y., rather than at Belmont Park, for the third year in a row, as renovations continue at the race's usual home. That means the distance is being reduced from 1.5 miles to 1.25 miles due to the difference in the tracks’ circumferences. Golden Tempo hasn’t raced since winning the Kentucky Derby on May 2. It’s no surprise that this horse is one of the favorites, and I love the length of the Belmont for this closer with stamina. The Kentucky Derby is the longest race that Golden Tempo has run, and this is a horse that seems to only get stronger with length. Before winning the Kentucky Derby, he finished third in back-to-back races, over distances of 1 3/16 and 1 1/8. However, he was able to outrun many of the horses he had previously lost down the home stretch of the Run for the Roses. One thing is certain: Golden Tempo will run the race he wants. The only question is whether he will be within striking distance late. I bet he will.
