The Panthers made headlines even in their bye week as they decided to let go of offensive coordinator Joe Brady. Carolina currently ranks 23rd in points scored and averages 15.5 points in their last six games. Former MVP Cam Newton had a big resurgence in his first couple of games in his second stint in Carolina but looked awful against Miami, throwing for 92 yards and two interceptions. They will again have to play without star running back Christian McCaffrey as his struggles to stay on the field continue, and he was put on the Injured Reserve for the second time this season.

The Falcons’ woes continue as they have now lost three out of their last four, with the only win being against the awful Jaguars. For as bad as the Carolina offense has been, that can be said about the Atlanta defense as they are 31st in points allowed (27.7 PPG). Matt Ryan still can sling the ball, with Cordarrelle Patterson playing well and Russell Gage suddenly having a role in this offense. Unfortunately, their defense can’t stop anyone, or else they’d be a contender.

Trends

  • The Falcons are 9-11 against the spread in its last 20 games.
  • The over is 9-16 in the Falcons’ last 25 games.
  • The under is 16-10 in the Panthers’ last 26 games.
  • The Falcons has won eight of its last 14 games on the road as an underdog vs NFC teams.

Overview

It was a low-scoring affair in their last matchup as Carolina came away with a 19-13 win on the road. Say what you want about the state of Cam Newton at this point in his career, but he’s an upgrade from Sam Darnold. The Panthers were able to pull off 203 rushing yards on Atlanta in the last game, and Newton’s legs still work, so look for them to run all over the 22nd ranked rush defense and sweep the series. With that, it’s still hard to trust the Panthers offense even against a bad Falcons defense, and Atlanta’s offense struggled big-time against Carolina’s defense last game. Look for that to continue

Pick: Under 42.5
