Friday's Best College Football Bets
No. 24 South Florida vs. North Texas
South Florida is the name everyone knows because they’re ranked and opened the season with wins over two ranked teams (Boise State and Florida). But North Texas may be the best team no one has heard of. Their offense ranks in the top 10 in scoring with 44.8 points per game (No. 8), and they've done a solid job on the defensive end, too (20 points per game allowed; No. 42).
While South Florida is an excellent team, the Bulls often rely too much on the inconsistent Byrum Brown.
This could be one of the better games of Week 7. Both teams are good and stacked with playmakers, but North Texas has a more well-rounded team. It will be a very close game, but North Texas will win.
Pick: North Texas Moneyline (-110 at Caesars Sportsbook)
Rutgers vs. Washington
It feels a little strange to say this, but Rutgers has a pretty good team. The ground game may rank No. 92 in the country, but Antwan Raymond is a solid young back with a nose for the end zone; he has scored two touchdowns in each of his last four games. The Scarlet Knights will need him to get on track and augment the passing game if they are going to hang with Washington.
Raymond will have his work cut out for him if he's going to run against Washington's top 10 run defense. But the nail in the coffin for Rutgers is Washington quarterback Demond Williams. He is one of the more efficient and productive quarterbacks in the country.
Rutgers has played well this season, but it still isn't playing well enough to win in the Big Ten (0-2). They were competitive in both losses, but still fell short. Washington is one of the better teams in the conference. It may take a quarter or two for them to gain control, but they'll run away with it in the second half.
Pick: Washington -10.5 (-105 at DraftKings Sportsbook)
Fresno State vs. Colorado State
Colorado State is a 1-4 team that struggles to move the ball on offense, averaging just 17 points per game. They aren't great at slowing opponents down either, giving up almost 400 yards and 27 points per game. Fresno State, on the other hand, is 5-1. Outside of getting dominated by Kansas in their season opener, they've played good football, hence their five-game winning streak.
I don't understand why Fresno State is only a 6.5-point favorite. They aren't a great team, but they are certainly much, much better than Colorado State's dismal squad.
Pick: Fresno State -6.5 at (-110 at DraftKings Sportsbook)
