Big3 Picks & Predictions: Best Bets for Week 8 (Saturday)
There are only two more weeks of the Big3 regular season until the playoffs. It’s already Week 8. By Week 10, there will be only four teams remaining. August 24th is the championship game.
Right now, there are four teams tied at the top of the standings, sitting at 4-2. We’ll see if any of these teams can break through over the final two weeks and stand alone at the top.
Here are picks and predictions for all four matchups for Saturday’s games in the Toyota Center.
Big3 Picks: Week 8 Best Bets & Predictions

Detroit Amps vs. Boston Ball Hogs Big3 Picks
The Detroit Amps are one of four teams with a 4-2 record. They ultimately squeezed by the LA Riot in Cincinnati last weekend, earning a 50-46 win. In that game, Jeremy Pargo scored 23 points and Darnell Jackson added 13 points. However, Joe Johnson was still unavailable with a thigh injury. His injury has hurt their depth, but Cam Smith has done well in his place since he came over in Week 2.
Meanwhile, the Boston Ball Hogs lost to the Chicago Triplets to go 3-3 last week. The Boston Ball Hogs finished with just 16 points in the second half in their 51-43 loss. The offense struggled down the stretch. But if nothing else, the Boston Ball Hogs certainly have more depth on the roster. Any player can put on a good performance for the Boston Ball Hogs. After all, every player who entered the game last weekend scored at least five points and grabbed at least three rebounds.
I’m taking the Boston Ball Hogs at +2.5.
Pick: Boston Ball Hogs +2.5 (-115)
Houston Rig Hands vs. Dallas Power Big3 Picks
The Houston Rig Hands are currently one of the worst teams in the Big3. This team scored just 42 points in a 50-42 loss to Miami 305 last weekend. They’re now 1-5 on the season and will be massive underdogs in this weekend’s game against the Dallas Power. Garlon Green and Corey Brewer are elite scorers. But they’re not getting enough help from Adam Drexler, Jeff Ayres and Jaylen Johnson. It’s a two-man show with no depth.
Meanwhile, Dallas Power snuck out with a 50-45 win over DMV Trilogy. Dallas is now 4-2 after tremendous performances from Greg Monroe and Glen Rice Jr. Monroe, Rice and T.J. Cline played most of the minutes last week against DMV Trilogy. They don’t lack depth, but Paul Millsap didn’t play and John Millsap barely played.
Either way, when looking at the top two players for each team, the Monroe-Rice duo is way more appealing. Let’s take the Dallas Power at -6.5.
Pick: Dallas Power -6.5 (-115)
DMV Trilogy vs. LA Riot Big3 Picks
Earl Clark led the DMV Trilogy in last weekend’s game against the Dallas Power. He scored 17 points, but it wasn’t enough. They’re now 1-5 on the season, despite three players in double figures last weekend. At the end of the day, the DMV Trilogy allowed 25 points and 17 rebounds to Greg Monroe, while also allowing Glen Rice Jr. to add 16 points and 13 rebounds. If the DMV Trilogy continues to allow those kinds of stats against their opposition, they don’t stand a chance.
On the flip side, the LA Riot fell 50-46 to the Detroit Amps. This was a game the LA Riot probably should’ve won. Jordan Crawford and Dwight Howard each scored 16+ points. They don’t have much depth, using only Wesley Johnson off the bench (who didn’t even score a point).
However, Monroe and Rice dominated last week against the DMV Trilogy. Why can’t Howard and Crawford do the same this week?
Pick: LA Riot -4.5 (-115)
Chicago Triplets vs. Miami 305 Big3 Picks
The Chicago Triplets dominated in the second half to defeat the Boston Ball Hogs to go 4-2 on the season. The offense rallied behind Montrezl Harrell, who scored 22 points and 11 rebounds in the win. Brandon Moss and Nasir Core each scored 12+ points with at least six rebounds apiece.
They’ve only got a four-man rotation with Jason Richardson and Amir Johnson out. But the top three played well down the stretch in Week 7.
That said, they’ve got a difficult battle against Miami 305 this weekend. Michael Beasley missed last week’s game, so that’s something to monitor. However, Lance Stephenson and Sean Williams still contributed 38 of the team’s 50 points last weekend to defeat the Houston Rig Hands.
Both teams have quality offenses with a lot at stake in this weekend’s game. I’d expect this game to go down to the wire with both teams getting around that 50-point mark. Let’s take the over.
Pick: Over 95.5 (-115)
