Cleveland Browns vs. Green Bay Packers Odds & Game Pick (2021)

With just three games remaining for every team in the NFL, the playoff race is as wide open as it’s ever been to this point as more than a dozen teams still have a shot. Four teams with a lot left to play for will go at it in Green Bay and Phoenix on Christmas Day.

Let’s take a closer look at the first game of the day.

  • Opening Line: Packers -8, O/U 44.5
  • Current Line: Packers -7.5, O/U 44.5
  • Last meeting: December 10, 2017, Packers 27, Browns 21

Overview

Currently sitting atop the league with a record of 11-3, the Packers are the only team in the NFL that has claimed a spot in the playoffs. While at least a few more will do so this weekend, the Packers are the only team truly in control of their own destiny as far as playoff seeding goes in the NFC.

In addition to MVP candidate Aaron Rodgers having another stellar season, a large reason for that has been ball security. Coming into Saturday, the Packers have turned the ball over just 10 times through 14 games to lead the league in limiting turnovers.

As for the Browns, a mediocre offense led by Baker Mayfield has been anchored by a defense that is carrying them. Coming into this week, the Browns rank inside the top 10 in the league in total yards (#5), rushing yards (#9), and passing yards (#8) allowed.

Trends

  • Browns are 0-4 in L4 Week 16 games
  • Over is 6-1 in Browns L7 vs. teams with winning records
  • Over 4-0 in Browns L4 games

Bottom Line

While the status of Mayfield, his backup Case Keenum, and WR1 Jarvis Landry remains in question for the Browns this week, I’m much more concerned with the defense. Already out Jadeveon Clowny, the Browns now also may be without Myles Garrett, who left Sunday night’s game with a groin injury.

With the last-second defeat on Sunday night still very much top of mind for the Browns, I see them packing up in the second half of this one and the Packers pulling away late to cover with ease.

Pick: Packers -7.5
