Best Bet to win the Heisman

There’s no question that Clemson has the easiest schedule of the top teams in college football. But sometimes, that could hurt a player’s chances of winning the Heisman. Chances are the top player will ride the bench for the final portion of many games with a big lead.

I fear that for DJ Uiagalelei. He’ll have to really show up in Clemson’s game against Georgia and then dominate in the ACC Championship game. Clemson has games against opponents like Connecticut and a weak ACC this season. In the regular season, they don’t even face North Carolina or Miami. So while I think he’ll have the best season, it’ll be hard for Uiagalelei to rack up eye-popping stats because he just won’t get to play in most fourth quarters. Trevor Lawrence experienced this and finished second in 2021.

To his credit, Lawrence did miss a couple of games due to COVID, which also didn’t help his case. However, the player and team that win multiple big games will be considered the most for this award. We’re also not so sure about his weapons on offense either.

Therefore, CJ Stroud of Ohio State seems like the better bet here. Stroud won the starting job and will have one of the best targets in football to throw to in Chris Olave. Olave could have easily gone to the NFL last year but elected to stay at Ohio State for another season. At this point, Ohio State has the best receiving corp in America, with Olave leading the way. He made 49 catches for 849 yards and 12 touchdowns in 2019. Then, in just seven games last season, he caught 50 passes for 729 yards and seven touchdowns.

He averaged over 100 yards per game and helped form Justin Fields into one of the best quarterbacks in the nation. Having Olave can transform Stroud into one of the best in the nation this season.

Pick: CJ Stroud +1200

Value Bet to win the Heisman

If you don’t bet a long shot to win the Heisman, are you even a college football fan? There are many interesting options in the market, but whatever you do, don’t put that much money on any of these bets. To win these bets, everything needs to go right. And I mean everything.

I’m really liking Matt Corral at Ole Miss this season. Lane Kiffin is one of the brightest offensive minds in college football, and that helped starting quarterback Matt Corral to 3,337 yards passing with 29 touchdowns last season. The 3,337 yards passing was the seventh most in college football last season, and he did all that in the SEC, the conference that is regarded as the best in college football.

He’ll need to cut down on turnovers, and the defense will have to help Corral if he wants to be considered for the Heisman award. After all, to win the award, your team needs to win. But if he’s capable of limiting turnovers and the defense gets a tad bit better compared to last season, the sky is the limit with this Ole Miss offense. Corral is going to be putting up ridiculous numbers and had four games where he exceeded 385 passing yards last season.

On top of all his passing, Corral also ran for 506 yards on 112 attempts, meaning he averaged 4.5 yards per carry last season. Corral can make plays with his feet and arm and is in the perfect system to score 35 or more points a night.

Pick: Matt Corral +2500
