Wednesday’s Best College Football Picks & Predictions (Week 6)

Jacksonville State Gamecocks at Kennesaw State Owls

While Kennesaw State (1-3) has struggled lately, losing three in a row, Jacksonville State (3-2) has won two of its last three. Jacksonville State has won two of the three meetings since both squads joined the FBS. But they lost the last one, which was the Conference USA title game.

The Gamecocks have a solid winning formula. They are a good passing team (231.6 passing yards per game; No. 6 in the conference), a solid running team (160.8 rushing yards per game, No. 3 in the conference) and they average 27.4 points per game (No. 4 in the conference). But where they shine is in ball control and winning the field-position battle because they have one of the best punt teams in the nation.

Kennesaw State has had some issues against the run but had a good day against Arkansas State last week, allowing 119 yards. They struggle to throw the ball but have the second-best run game in the conference (167 rushing yards per game).

Jacksonville State has a solid dual-threat quarterback under center in Caden Creel. If the Gamecocks win the field-position battle, he'll lead enough scoring drives to overcome a mediocre Kennesaw State offense.

Pick: Jacksonville State -2.5 (-122 at FanDuel Sportsbook)

New Mexico State Aggies at Florida International Panthers

The Aggies have averaged 27.4 points per game so far this season and rank No. 2 in scoring offense in the conference. However, their average got a nice boost from a 51-point game versus an FCS team. Otherwise, they've scored 17, 19, 18 and 34 points in their other four games.

Florida International hasn't played a tough schedule, but they just aren't doing much on offense (18 points per game; No. 10 in the conference and No. 129 in the nation). But they’ve made up for their offensive faults by playing excellent defense. They are currently No. 1 in the conference in total defense (244.8 yards per game allowed; No. 12 in the nation), rushing (80 yards per game) and scoring (14.5 points per game).

New Mexico State isn’t a defensive powerhouse, but the Aggies’ defense is good enough to keep Florida International’s struggling offense from getting on track. At the same time, the Panthers’ defense will shut down New Mexico State’s offense, resulting in a low-scoring game.

Pick: Under 46.5 Points (-110 at DraftKings Sportsbook)
