College Football Power Rankings: Week 9 (2025)
A handful of undefeated Power 4 programs suffered their first loss of the 2025 college football season in Week 8. As a result, full chaos has been unleashed in my latest power rankings. Notable risers from the last edition of my College Football Power Rankings include Alabama, Georgia, and Vanderbilt, while Miami (FL) and Texas Tech fell out of the top 10.

1. Ohio State
The Buckeyes continue to dominate on defense, posting their second shutout during a 34-0 road win against the reeling Wisconsin Badgers. Freshman QB Julian Sayin has quickly jumped into a Heisman Trophy contender following his 393 passing yards and four touchdowns logged in Week 8.
Ohio State can ease into a Week 8 bye before hosting a diminished Penn State program in Week 10. The defending National Champions are in cruise control until further notice.
2. Indiana
Indiana handled business against Michigan State in wet conditions during a 38-13 win at home in Week 8. Head coach Curt Cignetti’s massive contract extension didn’t affect how the Hoosiers prepared for an inferior opponent, recording 464 total yards of offense, including four passing touchdowns from QB Fernando Mendoza.
Mendoza’s own Heisman Trophy winner odds have shortened considerably since beating Oregon 30-20 on the road in Week 7. Don’t sleep on Indiana’s defense either, ranked fourth in the nation in points allowed per game. Next up is a tough home stand against a surging UCLA offense in Week 9.
3. Alabama
Alabama head coach Kalen DeBoer handled business during the Crimson Tide’s 37-20 rout of Tennessee in Week 8. QB Ty Simpson remains the Heisman Trophy favorite, posting an impressive 18 touchdowns and one interception to lead Alabama firmly back into College Football Playoff contention.
A road trip to face an underwhelming South Carolina offense is up next in Week 9. With four consecutive wins against Georgia, Vanderbilt, Missouri, and Tennessee, the Crimson Tide have one of the nation’s best resumes and plenty of motivation to continue beating top-tier opponents following their Week 1 loss to Florida State.
4. Texas A&M
One of the least discussed undefeated Power 4 teams right now is Texas A&M. The Aggies are 7-0 and just held off Arkansas for a 45-42 road win. Head coach Mike Elko has to like what he’s seeing from the offense, ranked 27th in points per game, racking up 400 or more yards of offense in six straight matchups.
QB Marcel Reed and RB Le’Veon Moss are a dynamic tandem in the Aggies backfield. Texas A&M has one huge win on the road against Notre Dame, beating the Fighting Irish in a 41-40 shootout in the waning seconds. In Week 9, the Aggies stay on the road to play a struggling LSU offense, before a tough road game against Missouri.
5. Georgia
I haven’t been bullish on Georgia this season but the Bulldogs’ Week 8 win in a 43-35 shootout has made me reconsider my stance. Head coach Kirby Smart’s offense has scored more than 40 points twice against SEC opponents, handing Ole Miss their first loss of the year.
Now, Georgia QB Gunner Stockton and company enter a Week 9 bye. A neutral site game in Week 10 against rival Florida awaits, before a road trip to Mississippi State. Wins over Tennessee and Ole Miss, plus a hard-fought loss against Alabama, make the Bulldogs an intriguing College Football Playoff prospect.
6. Notre Dame
After falling into an 0-2 start, freshman QB CJ Carr has led Notre Dame to five straight wins. The Fighting Irish just knocked off USC 34-24 at home, with RB Jeremiyah Love helping Notre Dame go over 300 total rushing yards.
Head coach Marcus Freeman’s defense is dialed in too. Notre Dame has only allowed two rushing touchdowns during its five game win streak and a stingy 56.6 percent completion rate. The Fighting Irish have forced at least two turnovers in every game, generating momentum and keeping the offense ahead of schedule.
Notre Dame’s remaining schedule is extremely winnable, so expect to see the Fighting Irish back in the College Football Playoff to avenge their National Championship loss.
7. Oregon
Oregon responded to its first home loss in over a year by throttling Rutgers on the road in Week 8. The Ducks hung 56 points against the Scarlet Knights, including a ridiculous 750 yards of offense, with 415 rushing yards and eight total touchdowns.
Head coach Dan Lanning is going to try to keep his team motivated entering a favorable matchup against Wisconsin in Week 9. Then, it’s a bye week, followed by a tough road matchup against Iowa in Week 11.
8. Georgia Tech
Georgia Tech continues to roll in 2025. The Yellow Jackets just knocked off Duke on the road, 27-18, to improve to 7-0. QB Haynes King is the focal point of the run-centric offense, while Georgia Tech’s pass defense has kept opponents under a 59 percent completion rate.
Until Georgia is played during rivalry week, Georgia Tech’s ability to stay undefeated won’t be tested much. A home game against Pitt is the biggest threat, before hosting No. 5 Georgia at the end of the regular season.
9. Vanderbilt
The biggest win of Vanderbilt’s season came in Week 8. The Commodores dealt LSU their second loss, winning 31-24 on the back of QB Diego Pavia. Pavia recorded a pair of rushing touchdowns, including the go-ahead score, to lead Vanderbilt’s eighth-ranked scoring offense to a 6-1 record.
The schedule gets tougher with a Week 9 home game against red-hot Missouri. If the Commodores can come out of that matchup with a seventh win, they’ll have plenty of momentum heading into a road game against Arch Manning and Texas in Week 10.
10. BYU
BYU stayed unbeaten with a 24-21 victory at home against Utah. Winning the Holy War rivalry is huge, especially for the Cougars’ confidence heading into the final five games of the regular season.
Ranked 30th in scoring offense and 14th in scoring defense, BYU head coach Kalani Sitake has to be happy about the state of his program right now. The Cougars have a bit of a gauntlet for their final matchups, starting with a road game against 5-2 Iowa State in Week 9.
