College Football Week 2 Early Odds, Picks & Prediction: Missouri vs. Kansas State

Both Missouri and Kansas State will get their first real tests of the season on Saturday, as the former Big 12 foes will face off for the first time since 2011. For Missouri, an opening game thrashing of Lousiana Tech (52-24) was highlighted by a defense that only gave up 11 yards on the ground. Taking a 38-10 lead into the fourth quarter before pulling starters, the win was even bigger than the box score might lead one to believe.

As for Kansas State, the defense was also the highlight of an opening game against a far inferior opponent, beating FCS South Dakota 34-0 last week. Running for 297 yards, Kansas State running back Deuce Vaughn spent most of the second half on the bench, rushing for 126 through two quarters.

This game opened up with Kansas State as an 8.5-point favorite, moving down to 7.5 in a move that I largely agree with. Having this game much closer to even on paper, I’ll gladly take the touchdown plus here in what I expect to be a close matchup.

Bet: Missouri +7.5

What is Betting Against the Spread?

Betting “against the spread” refers to the act of choosing the winning team based on a numeric handicap placed on the team that oddsmakers believe is superior, rather than picking the outright winner. For example, if the Rams face the Bengals, and oddsmakers set the spread at Rams -3.5, you would need Los Angeles to win by 4 or more points in order to cash your Rams bet.

What is an Over/Under Bet?

Over/Under is a wager based on how many points you think will be scored in a specific game. Oddsmakers set the total, and bettors decide whether the final score will be higher or lower than that number. If an Over/Under is set at 44.5 points and you bet Over, you will need the combined score of both teams to be 45 points or higher to win your bet.

What is a Moneyline Bet?

A moneyline bet involves choosing which team you believe will win a specific matchup. The moneyline favorite carries a minus designation, like -130. This means that you need to wager $130 to earn a $100 profit. Conversely, the underdog carries a plus designation, like +110. This means that you win $110 in profit on a $100 bet.
