College Football Week 6 Odds, Picks & Prediction: Houston vs. Memphis

Memphis just defeated Temple 24-3 last week as they head into this AAC rivalry game. The Tigers raced to victory despite a sloppy first half in which they were held without a point for the first time since 2017. With a victory on Friday, the Tigers (4-1, 2-0 AAC) can maintain their lead in the standings of the conference and all but eliminate Houston’s prospects of returning to the league championship game.

In the fourth quarter last week, Houston (2-3, 0-1 AAC) scored 14 straight points before Tulane scored a TD with 39 seconds left to tie the game. In overtime, the Cougars chose to receive the ball first and attempted a field goal, but Tulane ultimately prevailed thanks to a game-winning touchdown pass during their possession.

In the losing effort, quarterback Clayton Tune threw for 208 yards and two touchdowns, becoming just the fourth Houston player in history to achieve 10,000 career total yards. In their 30-game history with the Tigers, Houston has prevailed in 16 of the contests, with exactly half coming home and away. I think much of this line is built on teams of the past, something Houston coach Dana Holgerson certainly wishes he had.

Memphis rolls at home.

Memphis -3

What is Betting Against the Spread?

Betting “against the spread” refers to the act of choosing the winning team based on a numeric handicap placed on the team that oddsmakers believe is superior, rather than picking the outright winner. For example, if the Rams face the Bengals, and oddsmakers set the spread at Rams -3.5, you would need Los Angeles to win by 4 or more points in order to cash your Rams bet.

What is an Over/Under Bet?

Over/Under is a wager based on how many points you think will be scored in a specific game. Oddsmakers set the total, and bettors decide whether the final score will be higher or lower than that number. If an Over/Under is set at 44.5 points and you bet Over, you will need the combined score of both teams to be 45 points or higher to win your bet.

What is a Moneyline Bet?

A moneyline bet involves choosing which team you believe will win a specific matchup. The moneyline favorite carries a minus designation, like -130. This means that you need to wager $130 to earn a $100 profit. Conversely, the underdog carries a plus designation, like +110. This means that you win $110 in profit on a $100 bet.
