The 2024 CONMEBOL Copa America gets underway Thursday night in a First Round Group Stage match at Mercedes Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia. In Group A action, Argentina takes on Canada, with the match getting underway at 8 p.m. ET. It can be viewed or streamed on FOX Sports 1.

Thursday’s 2024 Copa America Best Bets

Argentina (-360) vs. Canada (+1000) – Draw (+470) | Total 2.5 (Over -126/Under +104)

The tourney gets underway in Atlanta, and the sportsbooks feel like this is going to be a rather lopsided affair. After all, Argentina is No. 1 in the current FIFA rankings and is taking on the No. 49-ranked Canadian side.

Argentina took home the World Cup trophy last time out and it is also the defending Copa America champs in 2021, so there is little reason to doubt Lionel Scaloni’s squad. And, yeah, they still have that ‘other’ Lionel guy, as Lionel Messi looks to add to his trophy case. He isn’t the only star on this side for La Albiceleste, as Julian Alvarez, Rodrigo De Paul, Enzo Fernandez and Alexis MacAllister are each stars in their own right.

For Canada, it is a Copa America debutante. While Argentina oozes with history on the pitch, Les Rouges has appeared in the Gold Cup. And the Canucks have the incomparable Alphonso Davies to lead this team perhaps to the knockout stages. Beating Argentina would be a monumental upset for the lowest-ranked team in the tournament, but it has a shot elsewhere to make some noise.

New head coach Jesse Marsch is expected to employ a 4-4-2 formation, using an attacking style, while crowding the midfield. Davies will start at left back but is expected to pinch up and be a big offensive force.

Unfortunately for the Canucks, one of the best plays on the board is to go with a 2-0 Correct Score (+490) for a chance to multiply your initial wager by nearly five times. That’s a good start and it’s listed under the Correct Score section, with the Argies being the ‘home’ side in Atlanta.

In addition to that, you’ll want to roll the dice on Under 2.5 Total Goals, which is a value at plus-money. After all, if you’re playing a 2-0 Correct Score, it only makes sense to go low on the total, too.

Also, it’s a good bet to look into the FanDuel Soccer Specials, in particular, playing Argentina 2+ Shots on Target in Each Half. It’s a little on the pricey side, but given that the South American side should dominate this match, that should be a slam-dunk play. And since we’re playing the shots on target, it’s a good idea to also play a goalkeeper prop. Let’s roll with Canada Goalkeeper To Make 4 or More Saves for a solid fourth wager in this opening match.

We don’t have a lot of Same-Game Parlay opportunities available, at least in terms of the player props. But backing Argentina straight up on the moneyline and under 2.5 goals will help you more than double up, so there’s that. If you toss in Argentina to have more than 5.5 Total Corners, we can more than multiply our initial wager by four times, too.
