Tuesday’s Best Euro 2024 Semifinal Bets: Spain vs. France
(Euro 2024 odds courtesy of DraftKings Sportsbook)
Under 1.5 Goals (+160)
Spain has scored plenty of goals in this tournament, but they also have two 1-0 wins under their belt. Though they scored twice against Germany, one of those goals wasn't scored until the 119th minute. After they scored their first goal in the 51st, they didn't look to score a second and were more than content to take the 1-0 victory. If they get a lead today, look for a similar plan of attack.
Meanwhile, the French offense has been terrible through five games. They've scored just three goals, one off a penalty and two thanks to their opponent’s own goals. However, the French have been excellent defensively. They've allowed just one goal in the tournament, and they held Portugal to just four shots on target in their last game. Spain will possess the ball for the majority of this game, but the French are comfortable playing that way. Don't expect many good opportunities for either team.
France to Qualify (-104)
The French have an advantage in this match because it will be played within their comfort zone. They aren't worried about outscoring their opponents as shown by all of their performances at this tournament. They're willing to sit back and let the game come to them, then win it in penalties, if necessary.
The French defense will frustrate a Spanish offense that hasn't been as good as many expected. Yes, they have scored three or more goals multiple times, but one of those performances was against Georgia, and their 3-0 win over Croatia feels like a long time ago. With how solid the French have been defensively, the Spanish may not get on the board in this game. Both teams have played extra time, but the French have the advantage if this game goes to penalties. And even if it doesn't, they have a better chance of scoring on a counter than the Spanish have against this stout defense.
0-0 Halftime Score (+125)
It would be nice if this price was a little bit better, but it's really hard to imagine either of these teams scoring in the first half of this contest. The lone goal that the French have allowed in this tournament came off a penalty kick in the 79th minute. The Spanish are going to need to take their time deciphering this defense; a difficult task that will take a while.
France has scored just one first-half goal through five games, and that was the result of an Austrian own goal. There is not much reason to have any faith in this offense, especially in the first half. At the end of the day, both teams are going to need a perfectly executed play to score. A play of that caliber is much more likely to come in the second half when each side has had time to adjust to their opponent.
