France vs. Australia
The French national team easily looks like one of the best teams in the Olympics. France added a 75-54 win over Canada and then earned another 75-54 victory over Nigeria. They’re 2-0 with multiple 20+ wins in group play.
Against Nigeria, France pulled away late in the second quarter and never looked back. France has some of the best depth in the Olympics, if nothing else. Marine Johannes, who had played for the Liberty last year, is coming off the bench. She scored 15 points in 22 minutes and also contributed five assists.
They’ve also got Gabrielle Williams, who was drafted fourth overall in the 2018 draft. Williams is currently with the Seattle Storm. Against Nigeria, Williams and Johannes combined for 29 of the 75 points. This team can also play a rotation of 12 deep.
That same Nigerian team that France destroyed defeated Australia 75-62. Australia had 26 turnovers in that particular game, which ultimately led to the loss. While Australia beat Canada next time out, they still had 20 turnovers in that game. Australia just shot much better from the field.
However, no team has scored more than 54 points against France in the Olympics so far. With high turnovers and a poor shooting percentage, look for Australia to tap out. We’re backing France.
