French Open 2022: Iga Swiatek Betting Odds, Preview & Prediction

History was made on the Men’s side at the Australian Open earlier this season, as Rafael Nadal defeated Daniil Medvedev for his 21st Grand Slam title. That broke a three-way tie that he was previously a part of with Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic, who each have won 20 career Grand Slams.

The second major of the tennis season is the French Open at Roland Garros, which will run from May 22nd to June 5th. The clay surface is difficult for even the best of players to adapt to, as evidenced by the fact that just three of Federer’s and Djokovic’s combined 40 Grand Slam titles have been won at Roland Garros. Even Pete Sampras, who ranks fourth on the all-time list of Grand Slam champions, never won a French Open title.

This is the first annual BettingPros Guide to the French Open, where we will highlight several of the top contenders from both the Men’s and Women’s Draws.

Is Rafael Nadal a shoo-in for his 14th French Open title, which would be five more than any other player won at any Grand Slam event? Will we have our ninth different women’s champion in the last nine years? Or can Barbora Krejcikova become the first repeat champion since Justine Henin’s three-peat from 2005-07?

Read on for our thoughts and predictions for Iga Swiatek in the 2022 French Open.

Iga Swiatek French Open History

Swiatek has appeared in just three French Opens, reaching at least the fourth round in each. In 2020, Swiatek won a historic French Open title at Roland Garros, becoming the first women’s player from Poland to win a Grand Slam title. That win moved Swiatek from No. 54 to No. 17 in the world rankings. Last year as the No. 8 seed, she lost to No. 17 seed Maria Sakkari in the quarterfinals 6-4, 6-4, but had not dropped a set leading up to that match.

Iga Swiatek Recent Form

In each of the last five calendar years, no woman has won more than one Grand Slam event in the same season. Furthermore, only three women (Simona Halep, Naomi Osaka, and Ashleigh Barty) won more than one Grand Slam in that time. Thus, until recently, the Women’s Draw was considered wide open at most events, including Grand Slams. However, with the way Iga Swiatek has been dominating the sport of late, the scope of women’s tennis may soon be changing.

Swiatek has won 28 matches in a row, including wins over seven players ranked in the top ten in that span. If that is not impressive enough, Swiatek has dropped just one set since mid-March, and has won five of the last nine WTA 1000s.

Iga Swiatek French Open Predictions

The Pick: Iga Swiatek To Win (-110 via DraftKings)

Swiatek is the second player to win four WTA 1000 trophies in one season, joining Serena Williams, who achieved that feat in 2013. In addition, Swiatek is just the fourth player to win five consecutive titles, joining Venus Williams (2000), Justine Henin (2007-08), and Serena Williams (2013). How could we argue with that dominance?

-110 odds is a lot to lay for someone that has to win seven consecutive matches, but considering Swiatek has already won 28 straight, what is seven more?
