French Open 2022: Paula Badosa Gibert Betting Odds, Preview & Prediction

History was made on the Men’s side at the Australian Open earlier this season, as Rafael Nadal defeated Daniil Medvedev for his 21st Grand Slam title. That broke a three-way tie that he was previously a part of with Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic, who each have won 20 career Grand Slams.

The second major of the tennis season is the French Open at Roland Garros, which will run from May 22nd to June 5th. The clay surface is difficult for even the best of players to adapt to, as evidenced by the fact that just three of Federer’s and Djokovic’s combined 40 Grand Slam titles have been won at Roland Garros. Even Pete Sampras, who ranks fourth on the all-time list of Grand Slam champions, never won a French Open title.

This is the first annual BettingPros Guide to the French Open, where we will highlight several of the top contenders from both the Men’s and Women’s Draws.

Is Rafael Nadal a shoo-in for his 14th French Open title, which would be five more than any other player won at any Grand Slam event? Will we have our ninth different women’s champion in the last nine years? Or can Barbora Krejcikova become the first repeat champion since Justine Henin’s three-peat from 2005-07?

Read on for our thoughts and predictions for Paula Badosa Gibert in the 2022 French Open.

Paula Badosa Gibert French Open History

After failing to qualify for the French Open in 2019, Badosa has reached the fourth round and the quarterfinals in the last two years at Roland Garros. The previously unseeded Badosa (changed to the No. 33 seed after Alison Riske withdrew) won her first two matches last year in straight sets. She then outlasted Ana Bogdan and Marketa Vondrousova in three sets in the third and fourth round before losing 5-7, 6-4, 6-8 to Tamara Zidansek in the quarterfinals. Badosa’s biggest win in the 2020 French Open was a three-set victory in the second round against Sloane Stephens.

Paula Badosa Gibert Recent Form

Badosa has failed to reach the final of any of her last nine tournaments and made two semifinals in that span. One year ago, she became the first Spanish woman ever to reach the semifinals at the Madrid Open and reached the semifinals in a third consecutive clay-court tournament at the Serbia Open. Badosa won her third WTA title earlier this year in Sydney, beating French Open champion Barbora Krejcikova in three sets in the final. Badosa has won six of her ten clay-court matches this season and is 148-79 (65% winning percentage) on clay all-time.

Paula Badosa Gibert French Open Predictions

The Pick: Paula Badosa Gibert Not to Reach the Semifinals

Since 2020, Badosa is 29-9 on clay, which is why she finds herself in the top five of most odds lists to win the French Open. However, physically she looks tired and has failed to sustain any momentum this calendar year to be taken seriously at Roland Garros. The crowd will be heavily against her in her first match against wildcard Fiona Ferro. Thus, we would rather back Ferro’s +1400 moneyline odds in the first round than backing Badosa’s chances to get past Aryna Sabalenka (+280 to win the quarter) and Elena Rybakina (+800 to win the quarter) to reach the semifinals.
