French Open 2022: Simona Halep Betting Odds, Preview & Prediction
History was made on the Men’s side at the Australian Open earlier this season, as Rafael Nadal defeated Daniil Medvedev for his 21st Grand Slam title. That broke a three-way tie that he was previously a part of with Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic, who each have won 20 career Grand Slams.
The second major of the tennis season is the French Open at Roland Garros, which will run from May 22nd to June 5th. The clay surface is difficult for even the best of players to adapt to, as evidenced by the fact that just three of Federer’s and Djokovic’s combined 40 Grand Slam titles have been won at Roland Garros. Even Pete Sampras, who ranks fourth on the all-time list of Grand Slam champions, never won a French Open title.

Simona Halep French Open History
Halep’s first six French Open appearances from 2010-15 were largely disappointing, as she exited five times before the third round, with one trip to the finals in 2014 mixed in. However, her clay court record has been much better lately, as she has made at least the quarterfinals in three of her last four trips to Roland Garros. Her 2018 French Open win was her first Grand Slam title, and she followed that up by winning Wimbledon in 2019.
Halep missed last year’s French Open after tearing a muscle in her left calf in the Italian Open.
Simona Halep Recent Form
The 2022 season started with so much promise for Halep, as she won her 23rd career title at the Summer Set 1 in Melbourne. Since then, she has not reached the finals of any of the last six tournaments and has been ousted twice in the Round of 64. Four of her six losses have come in straight sets in that time.
Halep has seemingly had difficulty overcoming the injuries she suffered in 2021, especially after injuring her right adductor later in the season. Her downturn over the last calendar year has seen the former No. 1 ranked Women’s player and one who was ranked in the top three to begin last year tumble out of the top 20. Halep had been a fixture in the top ten, spending 373 consecutive weeks there from 2014 to 2021.

The Pick: Simona Halep to Lose Before the Semifinals
Halep has two Grand Slam titles, including three finals appearances (and one win) at Roland Garros. She is arguably the most accomplished woman at the top of the odds leaderboard, but her French Open chances took a big hit with being placed in the same draw as Iga Swiatek. Swiatek is on a dominant run that has rarely been matched or exceeded in history. She has won 28 consecutive matches, and, unfortunately, Halep would have to face her even for a potential semifinal berth. If you think Halep can beat Swiatek, her +1300 odds to win the French Open are appealing. But even that potential victory might take a lot out of her and affect her in the next match.
