What is an MLB Future?

Let’s first start by answering; what is a future? A future bet in the realm of sports betting just means betting on the outcome of an event that will (or won’t) happen over the course of a season, half-season, or even postseason.

Oftentimes, the future bet is made prior to the start of the season, but with the wide-reaching legalization of sports betting, the market has expanded to be updated throughout the season. Said another way, while the market opens usually within a day or two of a season-ending, odds are updated based on money inflow, injuries, etc. throughout up to the start of and now throughout the season.

It’s also worth noting with the plethora of sportsbooks now available, it’s best to shop around to find the best number as each sportsbook posts its own and you can typically find some variance.

What Type of Futures Does MLB Offer?

For MLB, the most common type of future bets involves who wins the National Leauge, American League, and of course, the World Series. You can also bet on the winners of individual divisions, and whether or not a team will finish above or below a posted number of total wins.

As far as individual players, there is also a future market on who will finish the season leading the league in key stats such as home runs, strikeouts, RBIs, hits, and runs.
