What is a Golf Make/Miss Cut Bet?

When placing a make/miss cut bet, you are betting on whether or not a player will make the 36-hole cut at a certain event, often when half the starting field is eliminated from the event. As you would expect, the favorites of the week and the Tour’s more prominent names often require massive juice on the “Yes” (Make the Cut) and, in some cases, aren’t even offered on the board.

The golf make/miss cut bet is instead more reserved for the Tour’s fringe players, who more often than not find themselves directly on the cut line. The further you go down the outright win market board each week, the more names you will find closer to even money in the make/miss cut market.

Strategy for Making Golf Make/Miss Cut Bets

One of the best ways to capitalize on the make/miss cut bet market is to immerse yourself in players who rank in the 50-100 range in the Official World Golf Rankings. Most weeks, there are around 150 players who tee it up on Thursday, with less than half of that making the cut to play the weekend.

By being well versed in the strengths, weaknesses, course history, and recent performances of the Tour’s mid-range players, you can capitalize on the make/miss cut betting market by keying in on certain players on certain weeks. For example, if a player is struggling to stay on the Tour but, year after year, excels at a certain course or stretch of the season, there can be value on that player to make the cut when that tournament comes around.

It’s also worth keeping track of the mid-range players and which ones are making charges up the official rankings. If you can identify players that are starting to play better before the market at large can spot them, betting on them to make cuts week after week can be profitable as the newly formed market will likely be slow to catch up.
