Is Sports Betting Safe?

Sports betting has come a long way over the past decade, with accelerated momentum over these past two years as it has been brought into the mainstream media and business world alike. Even still, many have questions about its overall safety and place in culture at large.

Let’s dive into both.

Is Sports Betting Safe?

It was not long ago, less than a decade in fact when the idea of sports betting was not only taboo but largely speaking illegal outside of the state of Nevada. For well over a decade, Americans who bet on sports outside of Nevada were confined to dealing with borderline legal entities operating in faraway places such as Costa Rica or Europe.

And then came the repeal of the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act (PASPA), a 1992 law that federally prohibited sports betting in the United States, in 2018.

Since then, the flood gates have opened, as nearly 20 states have now legalized sports betting within their borders. With that, institutional money followed and public companies launched looking to take advantage of a brand new frontier.

With public company status, the banking systems also signed on, and you can now transact via most major banks, making sports betting as safe (and legal) it has ever been.

Just because it is safe from a financial backing standpoint, doesn’t mean that everyone should get involved. To do it as entertainment or income alike, you have to display responsibility and only wager the amounts you are willing to lose.

The best way to wager, in my opinion, is to treat it as entertainment and let your bets (and amounts) follow accordingly.
