Los Angeles Chargers vs. Philadelphia Eagles Odds & Game Pick (2021)

With two rookie upstarts, things are going about as they were expected in both Los Angeles and Philadelphia as both of these teams hover around the .500 mark as the halfway point of the season arrives. For the Chargers, a hot start has been followed up by two straight losses, as they look to get back on track and compete for the crowded AFC West.

Let’s take a closer look at where the value lies in this one.

Overview

In what is turning into one of the more underrated units in the league, the Eagles secondary has been improving every week and now welcomes in a second-year quarterback in Justin Herbert who is prone to making mistakes. Potentially limited in this one with a hand injury, Herbert comes into this one off one of the back-to-back losses for the first time this season where he threw two interceptions last week.

In addition to the bad outing last week against the Patriots for Herbert, the offensive line also showed its weaknesses as the New England pass rush got mostly what they wanted the entire afternoon.

For the Eagles, despite being five games behind the Cowboys in the East, the Dak Prescott injury potentially leaves a cracked door they will be looking to expose. The last time we saw them on the field was one of the biggest point margins in the NFL this season, a 44-6 win over the Lions as their offense was clicking on all cylinders.

For the second time this season, the Eagles defensive held an opponent to just six games on an entire afternoon, and if the offense can get going like it did last week, should prove this team to play at least spoiler over the back half of the season.

Trends

  • Under 5-1 in Chargers L6 after ATS loss
  • Chargers 4-0 in L4 on grass
  • Under 14-2 in Eagles L16 in November games

Bottom Line

In the end in this one, I like for the Eagles pass rush to get to Herbert and for their secondary to force him into mistakes like the Patriots did last week. While I think the Chargers have the bigger upside long-term, I like the Eagles in this spot.

Pick: Eagles -1.5
