Wednesday’s Best MLB Picks & Predictions: Mariners vs. Tigers

    (Odds courtesy of DraftKings Sportsbook)

    Seattle Mariners (-110) at Detroit Tigers (-110) | O/U 8.5 (-105/-116)

Jorge Polanco is the main reason the Mariners left Seattle with a split after the first two games of this series, as he turned in a herculean effort in the Game 2 win with two solo home runs and three hits total.

In the process, Polanco became just the fourth Mariners player with a multi-homer playoff game, joining a trio of players (Ken Griffey Jr., Edgar Martinez, and Jay Buhner) who accomplished the feat in 1995.

Polanco is one of two current Mariners who has hit a home run in their career off Tigers righty Casey Mize, and is the only one with multiple home runs in that split. Choosing a right-handed batter to homer off Mize should increase the chances of cashing, as Mize allowed 13 of his 21 home runs to righties in 53 fewer at bats, and also had a worse HR/9 rate at home than on the road.

Mize has allowed at least one home run in four of his previous five starts, and I am backing Polanco today to go yard for the fifth time in seven games.

Pick: Jorge Polanco to Hit a Home Run (+453)
