MLB Home Run Props & Picks: Wednesday (10/7)

For the first time since the Division Series, we have games from both leagues on the same day, giving us more options for today’s MLB home run props. I landed on one player from each league who has homered off today’s starting pitcher, or opener, in Miguel Vargas’ case, in just a two-at-bat sample.

Read on for my top MLB home run props for Wednesday.

      Miguel Vargas (+425)

Miguel Vargas had great numbers against Cleveland in the regular season, posting a .424 on-base percentage (OBP) with six extra-base hits and 10 RBI. He is the only White Sox hitter to have homered off Daniel Espino (in a small two-at-bat sample), and both of his hits against Joey Cantillo in six at-bats were extra-base hits.

Vargas turned in his first career 30-homer season. He and Colson Montgomery were the first White Sox teammates to hit 30+ home runs in the same year since Jose Abreu and Eloy Jimenez in 2019.

They were also the first set of teammates to reach that milestone this season, marking just the second time in franchise history that White Sox teammates were the first to reach 30 home runs in the Majors (joining Jermaine Dye and Jim Thome in 2006).

        Freddie Freeman (+640)

Freddie Freeman's 20-game stretch since the start of September, where he slashed .184/.259/.224 with one extra-base hit, seven RBI and 23 strikeouts, seems like a distant memory. He has homered in each of the last two games for his 17th and 18th career postseason home runs, and now gets a great matchup against Tyler Mahle.

Freeman has a .421/.500/.632 slash line in 19 at-bats against Mahle, with one home run. His 1.132 OPS is the highest among batters against today's opposing starting pitcher (minimum 10 at-bats).

All of the Dodgers' 10 runs in this series have come on seven combined home runs, making any of their sluggers' (especially Freeman's) home run odds worth a look.
